I take 100mg of methadone daily for the past 6 montha but im trying to switch to suboxone. how long after my last dose of methadone do I have to wait to switch to suboxone? I dont want to go into precipitated withdrawel so if someone with experience or knowledge in this subject could let me know about how long I have to wait that would be amazing. thank you so much everyone have a wonderful day.

i siwtched from opium to subuxone, opium has a large half life such as methadone has, so doctor told me "wait 24 hours, like methadone users". What i did, noe the best option but, was waiting 48 hours and using H since 24 hours to lefting 12 hours, so i was sure no more opium on my body. I am a "slow eliminating person" so i was pretty sure, taking subuxone just after 24 hours the oral opium, i was gonna WD

You are taking way too much methadone for switching to subuxone, doctors suggest to be taking around 30 mgs

If you wait just 24 hours, taking 100 mg daily, i think you will have to mess with a big WD ( i hope to be wrong)

I´d talk to a doctor to know about the 100 mgs. If you dont want to, tappering to 30 mgs before switching would be smart to avoid serious WD

If you need 100mg's of methadone to keep from feeling withdrawal, no amount of bupe is going to get you well. It has a ceiling effect of 32mg's which is equal to about 30mg's of methadone.. This is why bupe doctors usually wait until a patient tapers down to below 30mg's of methadone before making the switch.

But, if you wanna go for it anyway.. you need to wait probably 72 hours, maybe more. Go by how you feel psychically instead of the time, because that is different for everyone. Wait until you are in real moderate withdrawal to start the bupe.

However like I said, the bupe will not hold you. It'll take a while for your tolerance to go down before you'll start getting relief from the suboxone. I recommend you taper down your methadone dose.. way down. Switching at such a high dose is really not a good idea.

yeah, the methadone has such a long half life that you have 3 options pretty much.

1. go to the sub and get precipitated w/d.
2. w/d full blown and then get on sub, but thats gonna be extremly brutal, especially with a 100mg a day habit.
3. get on shorter acting opiates then taper off and get on the sub.

if i was you i would go number 3 all day.
