Taking LSD for the first time by myself: good or bad idea?

I have 200ug of LSD on blotter paper. I've never taken LSD before. I don't have anyone who could take it with me or be my sitter, so I'm thinking of taking it by myself at home next weekend. Is this a good or bad idea?

I have a little experience with psychedelics but not much: I've tried ayahuasca twice (had somewhat difficult experiences both times, but not seriously bad trips), MDMA, and mushrooms once many years ago.

I'm a little worried at the possibility of having a bad trip or a crisis of some kind and having no one around to help, but I have no idea how likely or unlikely this is -- I really don't know what to expect. I could take just half the dose to be on the safe side, but I'd rather have a full experience. Any thoughts? If I do take it, how should I prepare (e.g. having food ready or other practical stuff)?

first off, eat healthy and drink water enough, exercise, for a few days befour, making sure to properly stretch, i find short baths in shallow water can help to loosen up.

Be prepared, clean your place, (not with chemicals)

having access to oudoors away from people is very benedicial,
knowing when to go out for an adventure and when to meditate is key.

singing will help,

if later on in the trip you feel a bit tense, try baths, and foods like fruit and banas smoothies will calm you down
as well as hot beverages,

avoid sugar and fat a week befour taking. Probiotic pills will help rebalance the natural good bacteria in your stomach which should help a great deal if taken a week prior,

ive tested these methods and they work wonders for me.
It may be very intense, make sure you have proper heat, and plenty of fresh air, stay positive and breathg deep,

be certain that your cardio exercise, sleep streching, diet and mind are all relitively in check

happy trip,

i would say that your in for a real treat.

Just go into the trip with a good mindset and the rest will follow. Think too much about preparation and it could cause bad things to happen. Be sure to been in a safe environment. Also if you've done ayashaca a few times, 200ug of LSD should be nothing compared to that (unless it wasn't brewed properly and or weak). Don't worry and have a good time.

Worst thing that could happen is you have a difficult experience, and from each difficult experience you learn something that makes you stronger. :D

I never trip with other people. I find that tripping with other people makes me much more anxious and uncomfortable than tripping alone.

BTW, I strongly advise you to start with 100ug-140ug. 200ug is where LSD starts getting really intense.

I agree. I would recommend preparing the setting ahead of time. Like making a playlist, setting up the music, setting all the smoking utensils up together and such. Whilst on acid you might get so caught up in your thought that you forget what you were trying to do in the first place. I once sat there bong in hand for what seemed like forever because either visuals or mental connections where too distracting lol. Acid is my favorite because if it gets too psychologically heavy or intense then I can focus myself externally and be pulled back into the moment by the awesome visuals.

LSD and mushrooms are fairly similar in terms of effect profiles. To an extent, ayahuasca as well, but LSD is generally much better tolerated. Try reading Erowid for general stuff like duration etc.

A couple of things to remember if you wanna voyage alone:
  • you'll be ripping for a good 6-8 hours, so be sure to have stuff to do (drawing, writing, video games, speaking into a recorder, playing music, watching movies, playing with lights etc)
  • make sure to have music
  • have some snacks and stuff on hand, maybe a light meal.
  • clean and organise your space beforehand
  • have something like a mild alcoholic drink, a low dose of a benzodiazepine, or some sort of 5ht2a antagonist (trazodone, quetiapine, certain other antipsychotics) to counteract some of the effects and let you sleep, if you have to.
  • commit to your trip fully, don't worry, and go with the flow :)
  • don't rely on doing anything that involves careful concentration or perception (driving)
  • try to limit social interactions, you'll be quite obviously "on something"
  • don't smoke cannabis unless you are prepared to have your trip intensify
  • have someone on hand who you can talk to to help ground you if needed, even if it's via IM.

Thanks all. Follow-up Q: would it make sense to start with half the blotter (100ug, hopefully), wait a couple hours then take the other half if things aren't too intense?

Btw I haven't had the blotter tested, so I don't actually know the exact dosage; the friend I got it from is pretty experienced in such things, and I trust him, but he could have been mistaken or deceived, so it's possible that it's less than 200ug - in which case I might not feel much at all if I just take half, right?

zer: that sounds like a good idea. I think you could even just wait an hour before deciding to take the other half of the blotter, usually it will be pretty apparent by then what you're in for. Especially if you've taken other psychedelics before, you'll probably know what to look out for. However, there are plenty of stories of people not feeling anything in the first hour, so if in doubt, 2 hours is safer.

Even if your blotter is only 100ug, you will notice something on half of it (50ug). I've noticed that LSD is simultaneously very powerful and very subtle at low doses, even with people who've never done it before.

Seiko's recommendations above are great, and I would also reinforce his advice to have music on hand. Good music (of any sort, just music that you love) has a magical way of guiding a trip in a positive way.

Yes, having music is a must. The first time I tripped, it was on three doses (never been sure of exact amount) and I was with two other people, and I busted the speakers... Shit got way crazier when the music stopped. I can only imagine the silence alone could be potentially very excruciating. My thoughts tend to loop/sounds loop in my head when there's no sound input.

sound right. if things get a tad bit too intense down a couple of beers (too much alcohol will only add confusion) put on some relaxing music, sit in a comfortable position, and try to free your mind.
go with the flow: concentrate on your breaths, count them from 1 to 10 and repeat. works wonders ;)
and remember that a bad experience can make you stronger and teach you as much as a positive one, you just have to integrate it. and always keep a positive mindset! don't think "oh shit this is too much i want it to end!" , worrying will get you nothing. will actually make things worse.
and if the breathing technique doesn't work, go out to catch some fresh air and to have a walk. (don't take illegal drugs with you!)

have a good time my friend, and of course report back! ;)

OK, report time: I did it, and it was amazing! I ended up taking the whole 200ug (if that's what it was, of course I have no way of really knowing) - at first I only took half but after an hour nothing had happened so I swallowed the other half. Then things got intense... But in a good way. I was surprised that there weren't any freaky visuals or other hallucinogenic effects, a lot of it was psychological and emotional stuff coming up, and I got some new clarity on issues that had been troubling me for a long time. It was rough at times but I never felt I'd lost control. After that I mostly just stared out the window watching birds... I hope I get to do it out in nature sometime, that must be totally mindblowing. Anyway thanks for the advice and encouragement everyone, it was really helpful. I'd never have thought how important it was to clean my place, for one thing... :)

I find LSD is easier to handle by myself than mushrooms are.
However the length can kinda get to you if you somehow get bored or can't think of anything to do.
I much prefer tripping with others but by yourself is awesome every once in a while, it usually becomes a much more personal trip
