Benzos Taking alprazolam with a high tolerance to diazepam

I was recently prescribed 1mg alprazolam (sandoz brand) from my GP after the death of a close friend because valium doesn't work for me anymore and I've been prescribed oxazepam and 3 30mg pills does nothing. I've just started taking 2mg alprazolam (1mg doesnt do enough) when shit gets to much for me and I don't know If I'm placeboing or If it actually has any effect I feel like I'm relaxed and mellow and get a bit of a buzz but it feels like it only really lasts for about 10 minutes and I've read that alprazolam is meant to work for hours. In the past I've taken 50mg of diazepam with a few drinks havn't blacked out but felt a slight high but havn't really felt anything else on lower dosages. The other night I took 5mg alprazolam with about 8 standard drinks (I have a high tolerance for alcohol to) and that was the only time I could definitely feel it had some effect but still didn't last very long and I wasn't hell fucked up cos I could still walk straight. Will my benzo tolerence ever go away or does it last forever? and Is my benzo use dangerous to the point of overdosing? I could still walk straight after the 8 drinks and 5mg alprazolam. I'm also on 400mg seroquel and 3mg invega but my psychiatrist said it wouldn't be dangerous to mix them with benzo's

Mixing the benzodiazepines with the ethanol isn't exactly safe, but your dosages aren't that out there. Hell, as far as the safety profile of benzodiazepines go, if it's the only CNS depressant in the mix, I've read of the lethal dose being around 500mg for alprazolam and clonazepam. This is why they are so widely used. Many people will black out from as little as 2-4mg of alprazolam, while it takes 500mg to kill you. If I'm trying to catch a buzz from benzodiazepines (and I don't recommend ANYONE do this, I'm quite reckless when it comes to chemical administration) I've got to take around 8-10mg of alprazolam. Some people are just naturally tolerant to benzodiazepines; and we seem to be those unlucky few. When you actually need them for panic disorder or severe GAD/SAD or PTSD, then a lot of the narcotic effect is lost. This is why these types of drugs are therapeutic to those that actually need them. They wouldn't just Rx a pill because it fucks people up. This country is against that, remember? lol

When I was going through my worst stint of panic attacks, I was Rx'ed 2mg Xanax XR BID (but was quickly changed to 1mg IR QID as it being slowly released had no effect on me) and was still having severe panic attacks at that dose. And my benzo's were scheduled q4h, not PRN as is the case much of the time.

you are abusing your meds. If you need them for legit reasons, why abuse them??? Ive been on benzos for over ten years. abusing them just ends up making me suffer to wait for a refil

The PLACEBO is thinking it lasts 10 minutes. I think you are expecting too much if you want to not be able to walk straight. Your behaviour would definetly be considered abusive.

Sometimes combining one drug with another and reaching your desired effects can ruin the beneficial effects of each individual drug when used by it self. For example, someone who starts taking opiates with stimulants and not liking each individual drug by itself anymore. That person would only wanna use if they have both substances.
Somewhat similar situation here. You reach your desired level of relaxation when combining alcohol with your benzos. Thats a special feeling if you like it. Its somewhat different than just continuing to up your dose of alprazolam trying to reach the same feeling when that feeling was obtained with the alcohol+benzo combo.

As said before, if your benzo is the only CNS depressant you are taking then no it's not really dangerous in the sense of overdosing. But combining any benzos with another CNS depressant such as opiates or alcohol GREATLY increases overdose risk.

Well said!

Take your xanax and listen to some music, lay around the house etc. and it will "work" using it to party isn't worthwhile or smart...

I agree. If you need the meds, don't abuse them....especially Xanax. Benzo addiction and withdrawal is a road you really do not want to go down...believe that.

I'm not wanting to not be able to walk straight I was just saying that to describe that I have a tolerance to alcohol and benzo's and that the large amount of xanax and alcohol didn't get me extremely fucked up or anything not that I'm aiming to get extremely fucked up.

^It's extremely reckless and irresponsible to consume that much alcohol with that much benzodiazepines. You could have died. I agree with the school of thought others illustrated, if you stopped abusing your medications, they would work much more effectively. If you need to mix your medications with alcohol to have effect, that's a red flag for abuse and danger.

You are aware of the risks involved with combining such strong CNS depressants? Fatal respiratory depression? People die when carefully combining CNS depressants the way you do so carelessly.

i'd think it's not so much that you have a 'tolerance' to benzos as much as
you're a drinker..and are used to that relaxation and buzz that comes w/alcohol.
you're not going to get a buzz like that from benzos.
your breathing will slow.
your heartrate will slow.
your belly will relax.
you won't feel high.
you'll feel like you're not panicking.
that's what they're for.
i really honestly believe that someone who doesn't actually suffer from
legit anxiety/panic will never be able to appreciate what a substance like
alprazolam or diazepam can do.
only complain about what they can't.

If there was a chance I could have died from taking that much alprazolam and alcohol wouldn't I at least have blacked out? I pretty much remembered the whole night the next day, I wasn't even that fucked up.
