Taking 90mg of Morphine ER, after taking 4mg of Ativan. How long should I Wait?

So I am about to take 90 mg of Morphine ER (I just crush them and swallow them). But I took the 4mg of Ativan about 2 hours ago. How much longer should I wait until I can take the morphine, so I get no respiratory depression (Death from respiratory depression)????? I also took some MS IR 50mg throughout the day (5mg tabs), but that’s worn off. So do you think I should wait? Hopefully I’ll get a quick response, have a great night Bluelight.

I don't know your tolerance level, but mixing opiates and benzodiazapines is usually bad news, and by that I mean more trouble than it is worth.

If you insist on it have a sober friend to monitor you so you don't black out and go into respiratory arrest.
 
You should include your tolerance to both drugs.......how can we give you a precise answer w/o knowing your tolerance to both??

With that said, I'm assuming you have some sort of tolerance to both, especially with taking 4mgs of Ativan.

I'm surprised you're still awake with taking that much Ativan at once.
 
Yeah, I should have done that, Tolerance High with both. I can consume 10mg of ativan and not be tired (but i never take 10 mg, i usually take 2-3mg a day) I just have a weird tolerance with ativan. For morphine i can take over 150mg just to feel something. (oral morph sucks anyway) But i listened to your advice waited until this morning to take it.

A good rule of thumb for combinations is to take half your normal dosage of each and titrate up from there after waiting an hour or 2.
 
I was prescribed 1x200mg daily MSContin/Morphine ER from my pain consultant and 4x1mg daily Lorazepam (Ativan) by my psychiatrist for my anxiety, both were in contact and aware of what each other were prescribing. This was daily for ~3 months.

As you've guessed, I'm still alive.

I get that opiates and benzo's aren't great friends, but everyone on BL talks like your head will blow off if you even think of mixing them. Reality and experience says otherwise.

Rybee, are you suggesting that the OP's question wasn't necessary?

Your reality & experience will differ.......what gets you high & nodding will kill others.

There has been quite a few of methadone & mixing benzo users die with that combo & they were seasoned veterans of both........

Never underestimate the power of the opiate & benzo mix.

Nah not at all. Reading it back I can see where you're coming from - that wasn't my intention at all. I've always encouraged people to post questions, no matter how stupid they may think they sound.

Just a mixture of a bad day at the office and my frustration of this question popping up every day of every week on BL, and for that I apologise.

Sorry OP I don't mean to be snappy and have a dig at you, it's a perfectly valid question to ask. Just mad at the world today I guess, so please forgive me, I'm not usually like that.

In light of that, I hope all went well. Just out of interest, are these prescribed for legit medical conditions or are you just using them? Also for what it's worth, there's no point crushing up the Morphine ER, it wont break its time release.
