Benzos tagamet, temazepam and benzos

Oh the gelcaps are a thing of the past. The only country that still carries the "eggs" is the Netherlands and they only come in 20 mg and are listed as List I under the "Opium Law". That means they are scheduled alongside morphine, heroin, cocaine, methamphetamine, hydromorphone etc. I think Australia might still have it, but it is generally not prescribed.

The UK definitely doesn't got them no more. They only carry the tablets now. In the United Kingdom, midazolam and temazepam are Schedule III controlled drugs. British law requires temazepam (but not midazolam) to be stored in safe custody. Safe custody requirements ensures that pharmacists and doctors holding stock of temazepam must store it in securely fixed double-locked steel safety cabinets and maintain a written register, which must be bound and contain separate entries for temazepam and must be written in ink with no use of correction fluid. Disposal of expired stock must be witnessed by a designated inspector (either a local drug-enforcement police officer or official from health authority).

We do indeed have the 20mg eggs here in the Netherlands, and as the only benzo that formulation (not the 10mg one) is under List I with the hard drugs. That doesn't seem to stop doctors from prescribing it, though; it has been offered to me as a first-choice hypnotic, on equal footing with the Z-drugs.

^ WoW xxxyy, you're definitely in the minority here.

Temazepam is the benzo which caused a mass epidemic across two continents - there was a damn good reason for it too. It's absolutely the best benzo hands down!

That may be true, but that's something that's always confused me a bit. On BL, it is widely regarded as euphoric, and easily one of the best benzos - according to a great many, head and shoulders above the rest.
In Finland, temazepam has a reputation as an average benzo that may hit you if you have no tolerance or experience, but which the even slightly experienced can eat like candy. Chlordiazepoxide and oxazepam are universally regarded as pretty useless, but most Finns in my experience would place temazepam above them - VERY few people would even put it in their top 50%. It's very commonly prescribed; if a patient presents with insomnia, almost every GP will offer zopiclone, zolpidem and temazepam right away.

I recall a Finn here on BL claiming that temazepam is the most widely abused benzo in Finland. I'll try to find the thread. In anycase, temazepam didn't hit some of the Eastern European countries like it did the Western European countries back in the 80's and 90's. UK has extremely strict controls concerning temazepam, Sweden banned it in 1992 (Schedule II & Schedule V), Norway followed with a ban in 1993 (Class A in Norway, all other benzos are Class B), and in Germany it is never ever prescribed. When I was there last year in August I saw a lot of tetrazepam, oxazepam, lormetazepam, and even flunitrazepam - but not a single temazepam. In the Netherlands, it is the only benzo that is listed under both List I and List II under the "Opium Law". In Australia it was scheduled under Schedule 8 (which is the same category as morphine, cocaine, methamphetamine, etc) for a few years, but as the gelcaps were banned and prescriptions for the drug plummeted, they put it back under Schedule 4. In Ireland it is the only benzo that's Schedule 3, the rest are 4. In South Africa it is Schedule 6, the rest of the benzos are not scheduled (but a prescription is required).

In Singapore it is a Class A Schedule I controlled drug - the only benzo along with nimetazepam. In Thailand it is Schedule II along with nimetazepam, flunitrazepam, and triazolam.

It is highly abused; that stems largely from the fact that it is so easy to get. In fact, I think most Finnish people would also tell you, without thinking for more than 3 seconds, that a temazepam prescription is the easiest benzo script to get in Finland. "Doctor, I can't sleep". It's a much easier deal than, say, getting anxiolytics (where oxazepam or diazepam are first-line choices).
They are accessible - that's the main reason. They fetch average prices on the street market, as they aren't very highly sought-after; an equivalent dose of alprazolam is worth about 2x what temazepam is.

^ It's the same situation with alprazolam in the USA. It is so commonly prescribed that it is easier to get a script for alprazolam than it is for some muscle relaxants like Soma, believe it or not.

Funny - Finland seems to be quite the inverse. The outright demonization of alprazolam has been a noticeable and growing trend in recent years. It has a bad name - many doctors will outright refuse to prescribe it, because it is perceived as being a lot more addictive than benzos generally, and having limited therapeutic value for any time period, and pretty much zero after two weeks of use or so.
There's still a few doctors that prescribe it - and crazy doses like 6mg per day for over a year - but your average doctor prescribes it more and more rarely.

Also, here in the Netherlands we've got a pretty shitty situation when it comes to muscle relaxants - that is, there are none. Apart from ones specifically used for general anaesthesia, the only other ones are the benzos. They are occasionally prescribed for this purpose, but not very readily as they are addictive.

yeah i got it prescribed especially because its notorious reputation, normally i'd go for flunitrazepam, which is the no 1 abused benzo in germany, so much that they moved it into the same schedule as strong opioids and methylphenidate. flunitrazepam i always found very enjoyable but temazepam did absolutely nothing for me. i know i'm in a minority with this, it wouldn't be so widely prescribed and abused if it didn't feel good. the first time, with a low benzo tolerance, i took 100mgs together with some gabapentin and it was okay, but it was among the most boring benzos i've ever tried, not recreational at all for me. it's never been a widely abused drug in germany, like i said, before the reschedule flunitrazepam was so widely abused that out of the eight people in the detox wing with me, five were withdrawing from hardcore (20-40mgs a day) flunitrazepam habits.

Temazepam has some interesting history behind it too. Before it was on the market it was a special drug that was experimented with by the CIA as a truth serum and for other purposes and it was researched under the codename MKSEARCH. The Russians used it in psikhushkas or mental asylums. In the book "Soviet Psychiatric Abuse" it mentions a temazepam salt that was injectable (I forget what it was). But it mentions temazepam being used quite extensively by the Soviets for various purposes.

Temazepam makes people do some very interesting things as well, most benzodiazepines do but temazepams mechanism of action is different for some reason in my experience with it myself and being around others who are on it too.

It makes some girls super emotional, and is a social lubricant for everyone I've noticed. I've heard people tell secrets on it without even being asked so I don't doubt it was researched as a "truth serum"! :)

From what I know and understand it is only good if you have a zero to low-tolerance.

Yes, Restoril is the worst temazepam brand despite the fact that they come in 30 mg doses. The 20 mg Normisons are way better as are many of the European tablet forms.

I know I'm bringing this from the dead but what the fuck am i reading, restoril is the only benzo i know of that comes in these gelcaps with the pure powder in it, if you are ingenious you can make a lot of things with that. While your 20mg tops literal gel-filled caps are bullshit and caused people to lose limbs. I'm saying that as I put 90mg of temazepam in a syringe (with a micron filter) laughing my way to the bank ;)
