More than 400 caplets of synthetic morphine were sent to the wrong address in an illegal drug transaction, according to Northern York County Regional Police.

The pills were mailed to a Manchester Township businesses, police said, instead of the intended recipient.

Investigators were called to the business Tuesday morning when someone opened the package and found five baggies of various controlled substances, according to a news release.

The estimated value of the drugs is $10 to $15 per pill, police said, and the packaging showed the drugs were sent from an unauthorized vendor of controlled substances.

I wonder what this "synthetic morphine" they are talking about is.. sucks for whoever was supposed to get that package though.

Yea but methadone not bein a morphine derivitave never stopped no fucking stupid ass journalists before--Dont forget about morphine being "Synthetic heroin" 8) They call methadone and all opiates incredibly stupid shit that aint got the slightest thing to do with nothing in reality, so 'synthetic morphine' could defiantely refer to methadone. or god knows wat else.

shit yo---these fools is dumb as hell--you really think they gonna be factual with their incorrect drug terms? You feel me?

This shit could be anything from hydrocodone to fuckin fentanyl to methadone knowin these journalists.

Agreed. I hate how people call oxycodone "synthetic heroin", I'm sure this journalist just saw an opiate/opioid and assumed it was "synthetic morphine". Seriously, do some research. Even read the wikipedia entry for the drug in question, you'll find out its not "synthetic morphine"... 8)

Methadone was developed in 1937 in Germany by scientists working for I.G. Farbenindustrie AG at the Farbwerke Hoechst (it is synthesised from 1,1-diphenylbutane-2-sulfonic acid and dimethylamino-2-chloropropane) who were looking for a synthetic opioid that could be created with readily available precursors, to solve Germany's opium shortage problem.[2]

Anyone who wishes to claim the package is asked to call Northern Regional police at 292-3647 and schedule an interview with investigators.

Hah!

Wonder if anyone is dumb enough to try that.

I would bet money it is most likely methadone , fent, or some fent analog. The media always gives stupid misleading names for drugs like calling ghb liquid xtc.

If you are buying pills/drugs from other countries and they get caught in customs the Department of Homeland Security mails you a letter saying it was seized and if you want to fight to keep your package to call them. Obviously it is in your best interests to simply take the loss.

It's probably just a rare salt of morphine or something very similar. Wording it "synthetic morphine" just sounds so much more dangerous to grab attention.

I'm just guessing, of course. It could be anything, really. I'm guessing something very, very close to morphine itself, closer to it than even hydromorphone or oxymorphone. Something like desomorphine, dihydromorphine, or nicomorphine etc.

yes, this is the right words thingy.

The Hitlers made it because they ran out of poppies at the end of WW2.

it sounds like you might be joking, but in case you aint--No, thats not correct.

methadone was synthesized long before the end of WW2 , in 1937. It was created as part of a project to try and develop more opioids and see wat kind of compounds were out there--not out of any particular shortage or need for them, since there wasnt even a shortage at that time. dilaudid was their kinda "darling" creation of the time and they were seeing if they could come up with somethin else like that.

Also, they didnt give it to the german troops either, except in one extremely small experiment when it was tested on a very small group of soldiers, found to not work for the purposes they needed it for and totally scrapped as a plan and never used by them again, and was pretty much forgotten until eli Lilly in the USA started making it in the 50s.

Although, I am pretty much a retired dope feen, I wish they sent that shit to my house. Imagine being a feen and and all sick the you open your mail and it morphine. that would be soo awesome.

The Germans synthesized hydromorphone from morphine in 1924 - thirteen years before they developed methadone in 1937. They had synthesized hydrocodone in 1920, oxycodone in 1916, and oxymorphone before that in 1914. Many semi-synthetic derivatives of codeine and morphine were developed by the Germans in the late 1800's and early 1900's. The very first fully synthetic opioid, pethidine/meperidine (Demerol), was developed in Germany in 1932 by Otto Eislib. German scientists and pharmacists began playing around with morphine ever since it was first isolated from the opium poppy in 1804 by Friedrich Sertürner. Morphine was always the "gold standard" to the Germans, morphine was always their "darling" discovery, as it changed medicine and pharmacy forever. In 2004, they even celebrated morphine's 200th birthday/anniversary in Germany. I don't know where you got the idea that at the time of methadone's creation, hydromorphone was their "darling" creation. At the time (early 1900's), morphine was the most widely used/abused narcotic drug in Germany and all of Europe and the world, along with it's salt morphine diacetate (heroin). However, they needed improvements on both drugs, and the third, codeine.

All the new drugs they made like hydrocodone, hydromorphone, and oxycodone, etc were an attempt at improving on morphine/heroin and codeine. This was achieved, as the new drugs didn't have the side effect profile of heroin/morphine. They were less prone to cause sedation, respiratory depression, constipation, histamine-related effects, and this included euphoria aswell, etc. At the time, they believed that they were also less addictive - which to this day is arguably true as studies have shown addicts preference for morphine over the the rest.

Codeine was isolated by the French later in 1832.

Yea really, it's probably some type of morphine derivative like oxy or somethin that the journalist was just too damn lazy to fact check.

Last edited by Mora Fiend; 30-04-2011 at 04:54.. Reason: originally said methadone, but that's not a morphine derivative

Oxy's not a morphine derivative either. It's synthesized from thebaine. :)
