synthesis of (street) methamphetamine

i (as i'm sure many of you have) have been subjected to the rumour that meth is made from a crazy mixture of household chemicals.

i always thought this rumour to be pretty stupid but i'm wondering if maybe there's a grain of truth to it? though i have read documents and seen videos relating to the proper synthesis of crystal meth?

i know that there's a scientifically correct way to do this, using propery ingredients, with much less of a chance of blowing yourself up.

but i'm also wondering how many chemists on the street actually bother to put in the effort required? i'm sure most wouldn't want to blow themselves up either, but perhaps household cleaning products could aid in the synthesis without having to deal with lengthy methods of obtaining the real chemicals..

sorry if my post is confusing but i'm quite pinned right now and my friend's hassling me after wtaching some video that showed meth being made out of draino and shit.

Well being from the amph capital of socal I cam tell you that amph can and is made from many house hold items. The problem is how to extract such amounts as to get whats required to make it worth while!!!! On the other hand any street chem worth his SALT not only follows a set of rules but lives by them. None of us wants to be blown up or even flash burned.

Beofre this thread gets closed I'd just add the comment that there is a reason people call certain types of what you're taking about as being "dirty meth"

Synthesis questions are the first thing listed as not being allowed. Not being a dick, infact I just learned that last night myself. Makes sense to me. I'm sure theres a lot of info and youtube videos out there just waited to be googled. I know two facts about meth, continuous use can cause Meth Mouth, and thanks to all the garage chemists I can no longer walk into a store and buy sudafed without showing my driver liscense and giving them my autograph. It was placed behind the counter a few years ago I guess. If your extremely bored and wanting to see how the war on drugs has been spending our tax money you could go around an buy copious amounts of the stuff. I'd imagine it wouldn't take long to get flagged and even visited if you left certain items in your driveway/yard. I don't get it, I can pick up a sched II narcotic in someone else's name and all I have to do is confirm the address and scribble on a blue pad. Allergy/cold tabs and they want to know who I am...Unbelievable.

The "made with household chemicals" implies a certain level of misunderstanding as to how chemistry works. The classic example-

Sodium is a light, reactive metal which burns violently when it touches water.

Chlorine is a gas, poison enough to be used as a weapon in WW1.

So sodium chloride must be scary shit, right? It's table salt.
