Something I noticed that I thought I'd share...the eight "classic" hallucinogens seem to be able to be paired off. I include MDMA on this list, I know its an empathogen, but I consider it classic.

The two endogenous: DMT and 5-Meo-DMT

The two unique lifeforms: psilocybin mushrooms and mescaline cacti

The two anti-addictive k-opioid agonists: salvia and ibogaine

The two accidentally discovered semisynthetics: LSD and MDMA

Another thing, which Sasha Shulgin pointed out....

mescaline=archetypal phenethylamine (the only one found in nature)
DMT=archetypal tryptamine (the simplest+the more desirable of the two endogenous)

Interestingly, it is these two that find the greatest traditional use in Native American cultures (peyote and ayahuasca)

Also, highly pure DMT and LSD (according to Nick Sand) are piezoluminescent (they emit light when impacted in the dark). Didn't hear Nick Sand say, but wikipedia says 5-Meo-DMT is also piezoluminescent. Not any other psychedelic I am aware of has this quality. So...the two endogenous ones....and LSD. Says something pretty special about LSD if you ask me.
