Sydney rave scene, where'd it go?

I used to go raving every month or two, but then pretty much stoped bout, halfa year back or so cause they were just getting to crap n to many idiots etc were going. I went to check to see if any good ones were coming up, but apart from powerhouse/clubs in city, there are none. Where'd they go :S

Flinch, I was in the exact same position as you. I used to go at times once a month, for about 5 years. Raves in Sydney are shit now. The people who go to them are shit. The music is the same old same old. The venues are the same old same old.

BUT, Powerhouse are doing another Utopia in July, (yes I know, I heard you groan from here =D) but this one I am actually keen to go to. There are quite a few older DJs playing, and it seems to be focussing on the older crowd, rather than the little peaking kiddies who go to raves now.

i went to raves in 91 - 93.. pretty much from when they started in Australia.
in 93 my mates and I all thought the scene had lost it, the new punters were annoying and the music had changed for the worse

Put simply.. its you, not the scene. It evolves and you get a little older....
So you either 'put up'.. and go and have fun or you look for a new scene or place.

This is so true. I think people forget they are constantly evolving.

Nah man, its amazing how insanely it changed, specifically the people going. I dunno, i might of checked out utopia, but its in the middle of my trials, so ill be a definite no show. I know that when i started it was already pretty crappy compared to what it once was, but there were still quite afew sweet ppl n not to many gronks, now the shits hit the fan =\

The scene has constantly been changing. The kids are still young but your getting older not them getting younger. The scene has always been full of dickheads tho the drugs have definitly changed (quality of pills going down hill and the rise in the usage of shabu) and for the worse. the crowds have gotten smaller but then theres the aging population thing and alot more choice for where people can spend their $$
 
LOL it's funny because it's true.

It's not gone, it's still in your head. Probably the best place for it right now. Enjoy it while it lasts. Once old age kicks in it's all over. :p

People have asked similar questions to this in the past and my answer is always about the same as threesfoursfives.

Try and make the most of what you have :)

Very very true, which is exactly why we pretty much only go to doofs now.

BUT, there are heaps of oldskool parties held in Sydney these days, (which just proves that the scene DID indeed change ;)) thanks to the likes of stillbuggin, Sydney Old Skool, Aladdin doing the Anthem and Sunrise parties.

what are you on about?

I've been to about 6 warehouse "rave-style" parties since i moved to sydney, Info for these can always be found on the net

This is the most recent one i went to, 10 minutes walking distance from my house

DSS Free parties still occur now and again. They find venues and announce the location on the night.

there's old skool nights coming up, in particular Dusted on 20th June @ Hermann's which is on City Rd.

What sort of genre of music are you after?
There are at least 2 dnb and dubstep gigs on every month.
 
my 1st rave was '89...acid house all the way!

back then you were there for the music.........85% of the peeps now are there for the drugs! :p sad

YES!! Thank fuck for DSS parties <3 <3 <3

But, I think the OP was referring to your less underground, more recent raves, such as your Scattered's, Eckythump's, Thrillseeka's, Fantasia's etc etc.
Plus, he's not oldskool ;)
 
I went to a rave once and some guy asked me if I had any medic and I said whats medic and he said narc and walked off.
