Swollen spot after IV, but didn't miss shot

I got a small (bout the size of a nickel, maybe a lil bigger) hard bump after trying to get the needle in but i think i went down to far, and it hurt, so i pulled the needle out, didn't inject. Can this cause a hard bump ? Cause i remember when i went to the plasma center a couple times, a few years back, they went through the vein (infiltrating the vein, they called it), didn't inject anything, but it cause a hard bump to form and they had me put ice on it, and it was sore for like a day. What causes this ?


EDIT - and to the mods out there, I know i have posted about missed shots before, but this wasn't an actual missed shot, and I couldn't find anything about this kind of thing in the threads that talk about missed shots.

If you go through a vein, you will form an abscess. That's probably the little "bump".

I kno its not ADD section. I just figured that this would be the place to ask a question about drugs in general since this is the Drug Discussion section. But anyways, the bump is gone now, so it wasn't an abscess. Based on the research i did after not getting any replies here, it seems that if you go all the way through the vein, once you pull the needle out, the blood leaks from the vein and causes a bump to form. And you just need to ice it and the blood will absorb and the bump goes away, and so thast what i did, just iced it for a couple hours, and by the time i went to bed last nite, it was gone, so it only lasted a few hours.

ya its when u go threw the vein (like u siad) then u get back into it, soo whatever u are using leaks out causing the bump it will go away with in 20 mins or so. NO it shouldn't be an abscess, you would know if it was i would think. just my 2 cents
