Opioids Switching from methadone to ROXY/heroin and then kicking?

OK, last week I was feeling like shit from my methadone taper going too low and I decided to just stop using it. (after 7 yrs...why stay on something making you feel shitty)

A few BL'ers recommended that I FIRST switch from the 3mg of methadone a day to a milder opiate with a shorter half-life first.

SO. The last time I drank methadone was last tuesday. I felt really shitty after two days and procured 6 bags of H and 8 roxy 30s. From what I understand if you keep taking ANOTHER opiate while you get the methadone out of your system, you will never go through methadone withdrawals.

So far (almost a week later) I have not taken any methadone and have gone through 5 roxys and 4 bags of H.

My question is this. Is this now long enough for the METHADONE to be out of my system, (was on it for 7yrs) and If so, should I switch entirely to ONE opiate for the next few days and THEN stop using all opiates and withdraw with just K and Benzos? or should i switch to a milder opiate for a few days like percoet? OR, since I have been using the ROXY's orally, should I just start snorting tiny tiny bits until it is gone?

Any advice appreciated. I DO NOT Want to end up addicted to H or Roxy's.

I just had heard they are easier to withdraw from than methadone. (3-5 days instead of weeks)

I have plenty of Klonipin and a bit of K.

thanks!

tbh, just stop especially if you have kpins and k!

im fucked on ketamine right now, and i couldnt care less about opiates atm!

be careful though, dont replace addictions, keep doses as small as possible and as far apart as you can.

Just take as few Percs as possible as you can to get by is my advice, since you're this far along already. Once you know how many you need each day, keep tapering that amount by maybe 20% per week until you are at a small enough dose to start skipping days (5mg or so). From there, drop to 5mg only if you really need one and you'll no longer be physically addicted at this point.

As an opiate user myself though, I know it will be hard having good opiates laying around and feeling like you could really use one. Just be strong and remind yourself of your desire to be clean, and it will happen! Benzos and K will certainly help the transition as well, but I caution you to rely too heavily on the benzos because IME they made me really irritable and shitty hen I took them when withdrawing...

I don't know how i pulled this off, but it worked.

So I was on 180mg in MMT for two years. For court reasons I decided to detox and enter a rehab program. I prepared myself for absolute hell but walked away virtually unscathed. The only w/d effects were PAWS...seriously. I can barely believe myself when I say that but I'm not making it up.

Here's what the detox program did:

Days 1-3:
10mg hyrdocodone (Lortab) every 4 hours
5mg Diazepam Every 6 hours
10mg Flexeril every 6 hours

Days 4-7
30mg Morphine(MS-Contin) Every 8 eight hours
5mg Diazepam every 6 hours
10mg Flexeril Every 6 hours

Then I was suppoed to go on a suboxone taper regimen but after going through minor precipitated w/d's I decided against it. So all I had was one 2mg dose of suboxone, followed by an 8mg dose, followed and ended by a 2mg dose (8 hours apart). During this time I also used 10mg Diazepam every 6 hours as needed.

This was in a medicated detox facility, not on my own,

because of the cross tolerance, sure you'll be missing the methadone withdrawls, butt they will be replaced by oxy/Heroin withdrawls... especially since you said you were at 3mg methadone, taking a bag of H, or 30mg Roxi is taking considerably more in equivalence to 3mg methadone... why didn't you just do the last 3 weeks going down a mg a week, tough it out, and then be done with it... now i don't know what sort of withdrawls you've gotten yourself into

" why didn't you just do the last 3 weeks going down a mg a week, tough it out, and then be done with it... now i don't know what sort of withdrawls you've gotten yourself into"

i

well because at 3mg i was feeling like shit and didnt want to wait 3 weeks to get down to zero. in other words, if i am going to feel like shit, might as well be now.
plus even then I would have had shitty methadone feelings from wd right?

was i given bad advice?

maybe I will switch to morphine for the last few days

I have one week of vacation to use up

more advice please...i dont want to end up addicted to H again.

is it true that withdrawals from OXY or H are shorter/easier than Methadone?

also....does anyone know the half-life of oxy and of heroin?

thanks so much...this is a rough situation for me

'keep tapering that amount by maybe 20% per week until you are at a small enough dose to start skipping days (5mg or so). From there, drop to 5mg only if you really need one and you'll no longer be physically addicted at this point."

so a couple weeks of less and less percs? how long do percs last? one thing i fear is that i am going to extend the addiction. maybe if i just do a few more days of 10mg oxy per day and stop, i will be dealing with a wd that is tolerable?

thanks

one thing i should point out is that even though i am taking a roxy a day and occasional bag, i am still feeling some wd symptoms. i took this as meaning that i am wding from the methadone as i am taking other stuff.

are there are any good books or giant threads on this topic?

thanks so much

I would tread very carefully my friend. Methadone stays in your system for quite some time especially if you've been on it for 7 years like you have. Your dose was pretty low, though, so you have that on your side at least.
which ROA are you using for the oxy/h?
If I were you I would leave the heroin alone. Take the oxy but take it orally. Still feeling some wd symptoms is where you want to be. Just take enough to make the withdrawals more bearable and don't do it for too long. I'd suggest doing this for only a week or maybe two TOPS, but by the end of that second week you should only be doing a few mg of oxy.
I don't think I would recommend doing this to anyone else but withdrawing at work fuckin blows so I understand man.
Best of luck to you! :)

Yes, methadone w/d is a very prolonged and generally unpleasant affair. It's not bad advice in general to switch to finish the taper, but 3mg is also a pretty low dose and just decreasing 1mg a week could have worked alright as well. Key here would be to go slow.

If you go the percs route, then yeah, it shouldn't take long at all. Wait till you feel like crap from not having anything in your system and take maybe 5 - 7.5mg, and take that dose (probably will have to go 2x a day because oxy is short-acting) until you feel alright taking only this amount. Then, take off about 15-20% of the dose every so often (around a week) until you're down to maybe 5mg, at which point I'd start skipping days, every other day at first, then gradually skip more and more days until you're taking none. You have to fight the urge to get high with your surplus, so maybe it would be a good idea to get a set number of Percocets to do the taper off. Something like 100-120mg should be plenty to taper with if you're switching to 2x 5mg per day for the first few days and taper from there.

If nobody has said it already...:

Of those 3 I think methadone has the longests lasting withdrawl, then OC(roxy), then heroin. I would think that using the H a bit longer than the others would be the smartest way to go(that's a wierd sentence) as long as you will be able to stop yourself.

Yeah, the above posters have basically covered it, but I would reccomend staying away from snorting little bits of roxy, just on principal, and you should be better off then just the W/D from methadone by itself.
