Stimulants Switching From Focalin (dextromethylphenidate) To Dexedrine (dextroamphetamine)

I was previously prescribed 10 mg focalin IR twice a day, which stopped working, and im now switching to dexadrine 5mg IR once a day. How much cross tolerance will there be between the drugs? also anybody who has used both medications, how much more potent is dexedrine than focalin? thanks
 
As far as I understand, dexadrine should have fewer side effects than focalin, though I do not know by how much. As for potency, you'll have to figure that out yourself.
 
The conversion between methylphenidate/dextromethylphenidate and dextroamphetamine (Dexedrine) varies from person to person. Focalin in a reuptake inhibitor and Dexedrine is a releaser.

In my personal experience, Dexedrine is much more effective, slightly longer-lasting and has less side effects than Focalin (or Ritalin, for that matter). Your mileage may vary however. Did your doctor prescribe that dosage of Dexedrine?
 
I have always personally felt that the amphetamine was an all around better experience. I just felt better on it, hopefully you like it better. Good choice with the adderall or dexedrine. That's really the salt you want, not the other ones in adderall
 
I'm on Dexedrine, but a much higher dose. I get the generic (usually barr pharmaceuticals) Dexedrine 10 mg tablets (180 tabs a month) and I take 20 mg 3x/day. Taking one 5 mg Dexedrine once a day is a bit of a low dose, but I guess that is how you should start. I started on a low dose initially, but my dose was still higher than yours. When I first started Dexedrine I was taking 5 mg 2-3x/day. Before that I was on Ritalin for several years, but it caused my depression to worsen and it didn't help my borderline personality either (at the time undiagnosed).

I FEEL on the ritalin making you more depressed

Also, if i plugged the measly 5mg that i have, would that do much to make up for the small dose at all? does it have a higher BA?

watch out. theres a HUGE shortage of dexedrine tablets get er dex if you do get dex....you wont find IR tablets anywhere in the US right now.

nonono go to a walmart.....get brand name er caps. Those are still around as well as procentra...corepharma and armeda both have dexedrine er and those can be ordered it took me forever until I found some barr spansules....just make sure your script says dexedrine....if they try to tell you the doctor didnt specify dexedrine is BRAND NAME FOR ER. Look it up.... Dextroamphetamine is on scripts for tablets.
 
i'd heard there was a shortage but i still get 180 10mg dextroamphetamine sulfate IR tabs (DextroStat - Barr Pharmaceutical) and I asked if they would keep a supply for me and I'd keep using them for all my scripts and they said "no problem"

Dextromethylphenidate is more selective for NE while dextroamphetamine is more selective for DA. Dextroamphetamine is the best pharm stimulant available IMO. Though ethylphenidate is better than both.

also ethylphenidate is just methylphenidate dissolved in alcohol right? sort of like cocaethylene?
 
Dexedrine doesn't give me that kick in the pants I need for inattentive ADHD, so I have to supplement it with a bit of ephedrine.

Is Adderall (dextroamphetamine/levoamphetamine) better than Dextroamphetamine/Ephedrine?

I've actually heard Focalin is better than Dextroamphetamine for getting shit done if you can handle the side effects...

Focalin is only good for recreational purposes. it actually makes me have a harder time focusing than normal. If you slam or plug it, its similar to cocaine.
