Hello everyone, I have been on oxycodone 80mg 2x a day plus 5mg oxycodone 4x a day for break through pain for about 7 years. My pain doctor recently switched me to 10mg of methadone 3x a day. That was 5 days ago, since the switch I have felt like crap, some nausea, tired feeling, light headed and muscle aches to name a few. My Dr. says it is due to some withdraw from the oxycodone and will pass. Is this right or is this bullshit. Also I like to drink a few beers in the evening and have done so the entire time I was on oxycodone with no problem. Is it safe to do the same on the methadone. Thank you in advance.....budman..

Hi,
Good to have you here,
Welcome to BL ! Here is Methadone Mega Thread and FAQ v 2.0. Congrats on making the switch over. I can't speak for your doctor but it seems he is erring on the side of caution matching you with the appropriate dose. This is much better than overprescribing methadone. Also, they cannot prescribe over 30 or 40 mg initially legally.
And yes, in my experience I had some withdrawal on methadone, but not as much as going cold turkey. Your system needs to stabilize on that dose, and also become accustomed to methadone which works differently (even though an opiate and full agonist), than the short acting oxy. :)

Smoky I can't thank you enough for your quick reply and to know what I am going through since the switch from oxy to methadone is normal.
