I was on subs for 4 years averaging about 6mg a day sometimes 8 sometimes 4 but usually 6 average. I have severe back pain and the suboxone didn't help any with pain, I decided to switch to methadone almost three weeks ago and started at 30 mgs and felt fine for the first week, but felt I could use more, the second week I went up to 50 and that was ok, now in the third week I have been progressively feeling worse like it isn't holding me enough and the last couple of days I wake up sick, I even asked at the clinic if they messed up my dose because that is what it feels like but no they are giving me 50mg. Has anyone had any experience with this? Has it taken 3 weeks to feel this sick from the subs or have I messed up my receptor sites so much that this is happening? At first the pain seemed to go away, then it started to come back now I am feeling sick, can anyone tell me WTF? I don't want to keep going up higher because I want to get off in the future when I have surgery. I don't know if I should try to wait it out, but if I get any sicker I will have to go up.

It may be from the sub ruining your receptors that has been known to happen where other opiates just can't seem to cling to the receptors anymore due to long term/high dose bupe usage. It could also be you don't have enough methadone to hold you over as 8mg of sub is a lot of opiate so 50mg mehtaodne won't be enough. Also for some people methadone don't last as long you nay need a split dose like I do with my suboxone. I take my suboxone in 0.3mg increments every 6 hours or 3 times a day and I don't ahev any cravings and it gives my bad back pretty dam good pain relief like a couple percocets do. Suboxone is only effective for pain for the first 4-6 hours after its taken which is why people with pain who get it prescribed for pain relief get bupe in 0.2- 0.4mg doses every 4 hours as bupe in low doses works like full agonists such a s heroin /morphine. Anything higher than 2 mgs will block any pain relief /euphoria the sub may have given you which is why small doses work Better than large ones. Methadone when prescribed for pain is given in doses of 5mg ever 4-6 hours which seems to work better than once daily dosing so mabye you need a regime like that or if you go through a clinic and can't do that ask is they can split your dose to once every 12 hours instead most are fine with that my methadone clinic I go to let's me take my suboxone 3 times a day so they should let you do so with your methadone.

hmmmmm.weird....I personally find methadone far more superior to buprenorphine in every way possible.....thats just me tho

Are you only dosing once per day? Methadone for pain management will need to be dosed differently than for MMT. Suboxone has a longer half life than 'done. You may find your methadone dose will be working better once all the Suboxone is out of your system.

Like the Capt. said, you really need to speak about this with your Dr.

Not sure which country you live in, but in America doctors are allowed to prescribe methadone for pain outside of a clinic setting. So you would only have to go to the doctor's office once a month instead of the daily clinic grind. Please look into this, it will be much better for you as you will be able to travel more freely and you won't have to associate with the clinic. Some people at the clinic may still be heavy in their addiction and still using on top of their 'done, not saying most are or anything but some may be and you don't want to be around that if you don't have to be. Anyways, I am on Subutex (bupe without naloxone) and I have really been wanting to switch to methadone to treat my pain better and my cravings, since sub has a ceiling and I feel that it hasn't been working very well for the last 3 years or so. I would say you should increase your dosage, but talk to your doctor at the clinic about it first. You don't want to keep upping to were it will be more painful to get off of, but you want to function and not be in as much pain. I would treat your pain first and worry about getting off second because your quality of life is at stake here. Do what you need to do to feel well and live your life! That being said once you reach a dose that holds you and helps your pain stick to it. Like someone above me mentioned, methadone is prescribed around 4x a day for pain management if I'm not mistaken. This is why it is crucial you get it from a pain doc not a clinic, but if you can't (I'm guessing you might not have that option) than try to at least get split dosing. If you can't get that then you will most likely have to be on a higher dose to kill that pain. Good luck! Hope things get better for you, brother.

Yeah if you're on pain management, definitely try going to a doctor first to get a prescription before resorting to going to a methadone clinic and dealing with all that bullshit. I wish I could do that.

Yea that's the way to take methadone if you have pain taking it once per day doesn't do hardly anything for pain.
And a lot if people find methadone superior to sub's it a full agonist but if you know how to use sub's properly you can get higher on sub's then you do on methadone and it doesn't drain every last bit if energy you have
I know a guy who swears up and down that bupe was 10 times harder to get off then methadone or heroin was.

Sorry, but that guy is full of shit. Bupe has a ceiling and after 4-12mg (opinions vary, for me it's about 4mg) than you can't get any higher, unlike methadone and heroin where you can continue to increase dose and get more effects. I have been on bupe dosages from 0.2-32mg and I know how to take it properly and how to potentiate it with alcohol solution as well and it does not get me anywhere near a high. I got off all opiates after 4 years of continual use and stayed off for about a month and was able to get a little bit buzzed off bupe for a couple of days to a week, tops then it went away. Now when I take it I am lucky to get a glow, which happens randomly (this chemical is so weird). I can get wrecked beyond recognition off of methadone (I know that would not happen if I took it daily, though) and heroin (obviously). I'm not even trying to get wrecked off my maintenance dose, though, I just want that glow again but my tolerance has surpassed bupe's ceiling and that's why I want to give methadone a shot, but I am worried about ever increasing my doses until I get to like 150mg+ and becoming a methadonian and the clinic, so that's why I haven't made the plunge yet (but I feel like it would make me able to work again and function better without being in as much pain and discomfort). I would get a prescription for methadone myself but I don't have any pain that you can really prove. I just have a lot of intestinal issues that are painful and very uncomfortable so I stay on sub so I don't have to go to the clinic. I just wish I felt more than normal on my sub more than once in a blue moon. I stay on it because it does help my discomfort/abdominal pain and slightly helps depression and cravings.

I did the same thing bro cause no pain management dr would give me pain meds like roxys or nething for my 5 herniated discs in my back CAUSE THEY SEEN THAT IN THE PAST I WAS ON BUPENORPHAN (suboxone) so I went onto methadone as well nd im on 40 mg right now at the clinic nd my back feels great nd im not sick at all....u aren't getting sick because of sub withdrawl bro ur takin methadone in place of the subs so theres no way ur withdrawing...maybe u just have a flu lol seriously tho thts probably it lol

in the beginning yea the subs get u ripped but once u get used to them u can take 20 8mg pills or strips nd they dnt fck u up in the least....im for the meth nd ur friend who says subs are harder to get off of than meth is a total idiot lol

Hmmm, maybe ask about split dosing, if they do that?? I think Bupe has a longer half-life than methadone even(could be wrong) but that could explain why you are waking feeling sick. The say with suboxone like a 8mg strip is like 30-40mg of methadone...you could just be a fast metabolisier..but this worries me(about the subs ruining receptors) cuz I gtta feelin' I will end up on methadone one day(would be on it right now, I know it would help me more..just the drive... 90 miles there 90 miles back,it's wierd there is a methadone clinic then a my sub doc/pain clinic right next door...it's like they put everything in one place, lol)
