Switch from Klonopin to Ativan?

I am going back to my Sub doc next week for a followup appointment.

When I first started going to him and he asked about my past drug use I told him that I occasionally take Klonopin when I have anxiety and it worked. I didn't tell him I used to be prescribed it though.

So when I went to him with anxiety he simply put me on Klonopin 1mg 2x a day. I told him that's what I took before and it worked. He a really cool doc and actually listens to you. Doesn't treat patients like addicts.

From my use of Benzons. Klonopin, Xanax, and Ativan I have noticed that Ativan by far works the best. I tried to get my last doc to switch me to Ativan but he refused. Klonopin kind of takes away my emotions and makes me feel a little drowsy. Ativan just made me feel completely normal when I took it. I also seems to help with depression a little too. The key though is that I can't even tell when I take Ativan. I just feel better.

So for one could I just switch from Klonopin to Ativan without having any withdrawal problems? I have been taking Klonopin for almost two years now. I haven't even taken one Ativan since I have been prescribed Klonopin so I don't know if they would work as well since I now have a tolerance to Benzos. If he had me on 1mg twice a day would that be 1mg Ativan three times a day?

Also should I even try this? I am lucky that I could even get him to prescribe Klonopin to me. He's my sub doc to he knows I'm an addict so maybe I shouldnt go asking for specific drugs?

Anyone else have better success with Ativan as opposed to Klonopin?

Klonpins have a longer halflife than Ativan....

Ativans are fast acting benzo, while Klonpins last longer in the system.

I take Ativan for my anxiety and it works fucking wonders made me a whole new person... Anytime i feel a panic attack coming or stress... i put 1mg under my tongue and suck on it, 5 minutes later i am smiling and feeling relaxed

Ativan (lorazepam) is a great anxiolytic - it's on par with alprazolam (Xanax) and clonazepam (Klonopin). You won't go through withdrawals going from clonazepam to lorazepam, but you will be going from a long-acting benzo to a shorter acting benzo. This means that the physical dependence will be harder and getting off of lorazepam is a lot harder than getting off of clonazepam. That is the only downside.

You lorazepam dose would be 2 mg twice a day. Now lorazepam may be a short acting benzo, but it takes a while before it kicks in (onset of effects) and so the effects will be noticeable for quite a few hours after it does kick in. Lorazepam is a great benzo for anxiety and it also has decent muscle relaxant properties, and very powerful anticonvulsant properties.

So would this be a wise thing to bring up to my sub doc?

I don't want to come across to him as a drug seeker.

Every time I go see him he tells me about a lot of his other patients always asking for all kinds of non opiates which he thinks they are going to abuse. He put me on Klonopin bacuse I told him I had taken it before. I never told him I took Ativan so I can't tell him that now.

I just wonder if I just even try this?

Is Ativan looked at as a more abusable drug than klonopin? I mean I'm not asking for something like Xanax. I think more people try to abuse Klonopin than Ativan. I personally don't see how you could abuse any Benzo.

Look, there is nothing wrong with asking to switch from one benzo to another. Just tell him you would like something that is a little shorter acting like Ativan because Klonopin is long-acting and is keeping you groggy. There's nothing wrong with that. Even if it was Xanax, there wouldn't be a problem. As far as the doctor is concerned, they are all Schedule IV drugs. It's when you are switching from a Schedule IV to a Schedule III or II then the doctor might have a problem.
