Sweating Too much on Methadone

At even just 15-20mg I can feel my body temperature noticeably increasing, usually resulting in decent sweating, so yeah, this can happen even at a lower dose, in my experience.

Yup, it happened to me alllll the way down my tapering process until I was like < 10 mg, but then once I got under 4mg I started getting sick so the sweating started over. Didn't help I was living in South Beach at the time. Looks like between 4 and 10 milligrams was my sweet spot so to speak lol.

methadone made me sweat horribly when i was on MMT. i had insurance at the time so i went to my doctor about it... he gave me botox shots in my underarms to stop the compulsive sweating. you may also want to try changing anti-persperants and find one with a higher percentage of active ingredients.

Thanks for all the replies and info everybody. At least I know I'm not alone. I'm on 45mg daily MMT but I'm only on my second week on this stable dose, prior to that, I was abusing methadone outside of the program for 6 months. Week 2 is actually showing some promise. I still feel warmer but I'm starting to sweat less! It's not 100% better, but it is a bit better.

Oh, and I have been walking perhaps 2 miles a day and break out into a nice sweat. Maybe a little exercise has helped..

I remember that not only would I sweat unbearably on methadone, but that, 15-30min after dosing, I would actually get mild and immediate little hot flushes, which would let me know that my body was warming up and the methadone was coming on.

But I hated this aspect of it so SO much that I got back onto bupe and the problem disappeared immediately. I couldn't speak to anyone in public on methadone it was just horrible and embarrassing.

Would exercise help?
No, I don't think it would. The better shape you're in the easier and longer you'll sweat. Your body will become better at cooling itself down. I'm not sure at what level of fitness this kicks in though.

If you're interested in medicinal treatment, anticholinergics are known to decrease sweating. They tend to have other side effects and can even lead to over heating, so use with caution.

^Yes, this reminds me. Before methadone I was always cold. On methadone I was always warm. Really big difference.

Sweating was one of the reasons I quit methadone. I was under 40mgs and I the only non sweaty time I had was about 4 hours after it kicked in. After that I was always uncomfortably slightly wet on the skin which drove me insane. This was after about exactly one year on it.

I never sweat before that. I was always the one person who stayed completely dry no matter what the weather was.

Even after about a month or two on methadone I was sweating so bad that I couldn't do much physical work without being totally wet.

So its normal I assume, never found a good way to combat this. I decided to switch over to suboxone and now have less sweats from withdrawal than I had on methadone.

Methadone is a good drug, but not for very long term IMO. As times goes by side effects start to outweigh the benefits. Mornings became unbearable and so did the sweating. I liked the positive effects better than suboxone, better sleep on methadone.

Unfortunately I sweat from my face, forehead and under my hair so it makes me look like a real mess! It's slowly subsiding though.

I've always been rather sweaty but I find I sweat PROFUSELY on a high dose of any opioid. I'll just be sitting relaxing at work reading the newspaper, watching movies on my iPod and wont stop sweating for hours. That is 70+ mg methadone or 160+ mg oxycontin and anything lower than that it is not AS bad..

Late reply

Sorry to bump an old thread, I kinda feel posts about stuff like this never grow too old though since through the years new people inquire about this stuff. And while the OP may have found an answer to his problem I just wanted to put in my 2 cents.

I'm on MMT for a second time, (i store never again after I got cut off cold turkey from 80 to 0...alas the alternative wasn't.)

When I first started I would have to change out my pillows at least 3 times a night. My sweats where so bad I didnt even have to be active to get them, when I was active though it was really bad. Like a previous poster I would carry with me a little towel everywhere I went. Like I was about to go golfing lol. I would even take a spare t shirt to change into in the mid day.

I had to quit my job bartending. :(

What I eventually found though was that theres a sweet spot in the dose amount that helps. Too low and youre sweating bad, too high and again, youre a hose. When I was at 45 was when I couldnt sleep without sweating, but when I decided to go up to 65 I stopped having the sleep sweats. I still was sweating more than normal during waking hours but not too bad. Then I decided to go up and got to 80. I didnt have problems while sleeping but the day sweats got super bad. Especially after slight exertion. And really bad while walking.

When I tried to taper I got back to 60 and after about 2 weeks at that dose things got better, but when I made it to 40 things were awful.I'm sure a good deal of it could be attributed to MD w/d but still...

Ater starting up on maintenance again I found the same thing to be true. A few weeks at 40-45 it was bad, thought it could be w/d but after a few weeks steady and even with it happening after using I went back to my former school of thought. There has to be a sweet spot for everyone since I meet plenty of people with little sweat issues at the clinic. Most who have it bad are just starting out, or are on high doses. I'm at 65 now and it's purtty bad. So I'm thinking about going to 70 or so, while staying as low as possible. Kicking was rough >_<

I've also picked up some cinnamon caps and will be trying that. Theres "nutridone" and similar supplements that claim to help but to me they are overpriced vitamin supplements with cinnamon.

I did try the nutridone for a few weeks since a friend got a large supply and kicked down with a decent amount. They seemed to work well. I think it's the cinnamon but of All the extra healthy from the supplements prolly didnt hurt. I mean I imagine most people with the kind of habis that necessitate methadone mmt dont have very good eating habits either. (not all of course, don't burn me at the stake!)

I do have to say I think cold weather is the worst personally. I live in colorado and it could be 15 degrees outside and if I walk half a mile I'm seeing like crazy. Bundled up, cold as all get out And dripping sweat is the worst.

Oh and just to note when I was at 60 I was fine, so perhaps going up isnt the answer. Can only try.

Apologies if this is all just a repeat of earlier posts (i know cinnamon has been mentioned) I kinda scanned page 2 since my battery is about to die.

Honestly IMO it's one of the side effects you really cannot avoid with methadone. Kind of annoying. It's not a cold sweat though..but you will find your self wiping your face or changing clothes more often than usual.

I know this is an old post, but I just searched "sweating too much on methadone" on Google and this is what came up. I've been on methadone since I was 17 (I'm 23 now). I'm at 125 mg. and I sweat like crazy. It's embarrassing because I'll sweat my makeup off, my hair gets all nasty and sticky, sometimes you can see it through my clothes. It drives me crazy. Today I was standing in Walmart at the checkout literally doing nothing, just waiting for them to tell me how much my bill was, and I started sweating SO bad. My boyfriend said it was cold in there. wtf. To the people that are saying they don't sweat-- consider yourself lucky because this shit sucks!! I think I'm going to try those cinnamon supplements that a few people mentioned.. I'll try almost anything at this point..
