After years of trying different things and combinations, I've found that mild dosing of meth is what best gives me what I'm looking for. (Though mild dosing was learned the hard way: http://www.bluelight.org/vb/threads/725315-Just-had-too-much-crystal-meth-advice-please)
I'm cautiously back to meth after the OD detailed in the thread above, taking it easy, without problems thus far, and I'm opening a thread for a bit of thought about what might be ground rules for meth being a part of life without being life itself, which I needless to say do not want, but which I can't pretend wouldn't not only be a risk for anyone but for myself in particular. There's lots on here about self-care/harm-reduction while using, but I'm thinking at the moment about frequency and dosing to stay stable and occasional with this particularly moreish substance.
My current thinking:
-No multiple day binges. Take a moderate amount early enough that sleep is possible at an acceptable time and not let a session run to a second, let alone further, days.
-No more than twice a week as an upper limit, and with regular breaks of a week or two between sessions. Drawing from past alcohol control strategies, I'd add a full month off once a year as well, though I haven't tried that yet myself.
-Pre-planned dosing to avoid accidental overdose foremost, but also an unplanned longer session than wise.
-Did IV meth once: yes, intense and unforgettable, but never repeating personally, as I cannot imagine, for me at least, that not ending quickly in brutal addiction (I smoke instead).
So far this set-up is holding me. I'm interested to hear from people who have found patterns that let them use more or less responsibly, and also from people who learned the hard way what sort of mistakes lead to more use than is good.
The last thing I'll add myself is that I find having some diazepam around is a very good thing. 2mg towards the beginning to smooth out the session and then same dose again once properly coming down (not before) with another if and only if needed some time later. You could go to 5mg alright of course, but I try to keep that stuff in reserve for when it's needed. And obviously no benzo use other than to manage meth to avoid the obvious benzo issues.
