Suspect uses snapping turtle to guard drugs
JUNE 1, 2015
M.DELATORRE

TULSA, Okla. — Oklahoma Highway Patrol and the Tulsa Police Department pulled over a hit-and-run suspect when they found something startling.

The driver of the car was suspected of being involved in a hit-and-run on the Muskogee Turnpike. Police recognized the nearly-totaled car matched the description, so they pulled the driver over.

Apparently, the driver was making his way from Fort Smith, Arkansas to Dallas, Texas; he managed to drive 10-15 miles with the front half of his car completely smashed from the accident.

Officers and troopers searched the car, and found drugs in the trunk. But they quickly slammed the trunk closed when a snapping turtle allegedly lunged out at them.

We have these in the woods and steams by my house and even the little ones can bite through a twig the size of a pencil. I bet the bigger ones might even be able to take off a finger. Def a change for the stereotypical Rottweiler or pottbull. One of my favs was the guy that had a crocodile... I think he was a tweaker. Go figure right.

The bigger ones could probably take off a hand, or even an arm given enough time. They're harmless unless you're dumb enough to dangle a body part in front of their face. I used to catch them when I was a kid (not something I recommend) all you do is sneak up behind them, grab the tail then flip them over.

My favorite was Escobar's Hippos..

The snapper in the video isn't your typical snapper. It must be some exotic form.

A Komodo dragon would be the ultimate creature, but of course it wouldn't fit in the trunk of a car. Another option would be the Gila monster.

(fwiw: I am entirely against using animals/reptiles in this way)
