Please forgive me if I am posting in the wrong forum- this seemed the most appropriate.
LONG story short:
Heroin addict scheduled for spinal surgery- the doctors are aware.
They have not given me any direction or advice- other than telling me they won't operate while I am using.
Should I go on methadone temporarily until after the surgery at least? Should I try to kick with sub before the surgery? These may sound like ignorant questions, but I am truly at a loss. The hospital staff were less than understanding- I was too ashamed to ask many questions. Anyone with similar experiences? I know you aren't doctors, just looking for someone who has been through something similar.

Thank
Kiki

The only reason I could think of them not doing the surgery is they would not know how to administer the anesthesia with the proper dosage so that they don't overdose you or have you awaken during surgery. A friend of mine had surgery while on Fent patches, morphine, and roxicodone in large dosages. They told him it was necessary to know the exact amount of medication he was on for that reason. Good luck, hope your surgery is a success.
