Surgery 5 days after Ayahuasca?

Hi!

First of all: I've been using this page as my main source for information regarding drug and pharmacology knowledge for many years now and want to thank you all for keeping up the good work! You guys are awesome!

I've decided to register now because I have an important question and didn't know who else to ask...

Me and my girlfriend have been wanting to try Ayahuasca for a long time and now we finally found someone very trustworthy organizing a weekend-session in our neighborhood and decided to take part in the experience. However, 5 days after the session my girlfriend will undergo a surgery including a deep narcosis.

We are unsure if the MAO-Inhibitor from the Caapi will still have an effect (no matter how weak) 5 days after being ingested... Can anyone here provide information that can help us?

Hi there, if you are having general anaesthesia then it would be unwise to consume the MAOI so soon before. It is unlikely that there would be any issues but for a serious procedure like this I'm afraid I'd err on the side of caution.

The beta carboline alkaloids from ayahuasca should have cleared out after 5 days. They're not irreversible inhibitors so you should be fine.
