Supreme Court Okays Police Search Based on Pot Odor, Noises

If you want to continue with your foul-mouthed ignorance, with your language that reveals bias, ignorance, hatred, and disrespect, take it elsewhere.

(damn dude, Puerto Rican isn't even a race)

No sexism or racism in referring to a human being the way you did?

You are either joking or playing games. I don't care which it is.

If you want to continue with your foul-mouthed ignorance, with your language that reveals bias, ignorance, hatred, and disrespect, take it elsewhere.

If you think it is okay to refer to human beings that way, I am very, very proud to be a pain in your ass. =D

End of discussion.
This got me banned.

I rather not participate in a Rodney King beat down if thats okay with you. There is a reason why the feds went after the Ruby Ridge gang & Waco. They stand for freedom against the government, something the leaders of this country will not tolerate.

I've been taking my smoking outside for some time now. It's just safer.

Apartment complexes, or any living quarters where people are close to one another, are not smart places to toke. When I was taking classes at my local state college, I read in the school paper's police blotter every week about people getting their doom room doors kicked in when a cop walked through and smelled the mary jay-jay. THINK, PEOPLE! The towel doesn't work. :!

When my now wife and I were living in an apartment complex, I'd always take a walk around the abandoned factory next door when I wanted a toke.

Yeah I agree it's some shit that this guy got nailed. The US police have itchy trigger fingers because crime has gone down and terrorist threats up. All we can do is learn from this guy's experience and get smarter about our use. It's a knowledge war as much as it's a drug war. They bank on us not knowing our rights or their tactics. We elude them when we do.

Ah, memories of my days on the psych ward!

I almost edited out your offensive comments, but I decided to keep them instead, as a way of memorializing your ignorant sexism and racism. Maybe, hopefully, you will stumble onto these comments in a decade and be mortified that you ever made them.
Your attitude is disgusting to me and to many others, though the KKK would probably think you are right on.
In the future, please refrain from making such small-hearted comments here.

I didn't see any racism or sexism in that comment. "Puerto Rican" gave the description of who he was talkin about. Maybe not politically correct or whatever, but I knew exactly who he was talkin about since they made a big deal about her being Puerto Rican when she got put on the Supreme Court. And then "bitch" and "cunt" refer to a description of her individually, its not "sexist." He just as easily could have said "asshole" or "douchebag", but he chose his words differently, not cuz he's sexist (im assuming) but just cuz those are the words he happened to use.

On a side note, I kinda agree with him. Back when she was up for nomination, all the beaners (or hispanics, sorry. I guess saying beaners would make me racist, despite me being mexican ;) ) were excited for her to be on the Supreme Court, cuz we thought that she'd be more in touch with minorities/lower class people, and would be a voice of reason against injustices from the law against lower class people. Basically, we thought she'd know whats up.

But if she voted in favor of this (which obviously she did), she's either a) a sell out or b) has animosity towards the kind of community she came from, and we just didn't notice cuz we were stoked on having a beaner in the supreme court.
/derailing thread

On topic: Fuck this. Now I have to be paranoid every time I take a shit because the police might come busting in because I'm "destroying evidence."

Actually, if they do come a'knockin while im on the can, I won't flush. I'll leave the evidence right there for them to see=D

He was not explicitly or implicitly stating all Puerto Rican woman are cunts. He was describing this particular individual on the supreme court as a Puerto Rican and a cunt. Both are true statements.

You are like the caucasions who defend minorities when an ethnic description is used with out even listening to the context.

I think we got a lot of people here trying to play a game, or very, very sadly ignorant about bias and stereotyping.
Let me enlighten you, just so you can't say you didn't learn anything today on Bluelight.

There are many possible ways to refer to Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor.
You could call her the first Hispanic justice.
You could say she is the justice who got her J.D. from Yale in 1979.
You could call her the justice who ended the baseball strike in 1994, the lifelong Yankee fan.
She is the one with diabetes.
She is the one nonimated by Obama in May, 2009.
You could also call her Puerto Rican. However, she was born and raised in New York; she is of Puerto Rican descent, and therefore is referred to as having Puerto Rican ethnicity. (Puerto Rican is not a race, just as Hispanic is not considered a race. However, the word "racist" is commonly used to refer to someone who treats people differently or stereotypes based on either their race or their ethnicity. )

Calling her "that Puerto Rican bitch" and "that PR cunt" are clearly intended to be insulting, demeaning, and offensive. The speaker is expressing antipathy through word choice.

I consider the words "bitch" and "cunt" to be offensive to women, as well as to those of use who respect women. I do not think that I am alone or unreasonable in this interpretation.

By using her ethnicity to refer to her in such a demeaning context, an overall tone that is insulting is created. This is created on purpose.

I bet you wouldn't want a group of Mexican guys passing you on the street to hear to refer (presumably angrily) to someone they don't know as "that Mexican ballsack - that Mexican asswipe".

Why not? Because it is clearly intended to be offensive.
It is designed to insult.

A word such as "Mexican" can be a neutral term, or it can be a term of pride, or it can a racist term, depending on the speaker's intent, emotions, intensity, and the context in which it is used.

In the context with "bitch" and "cunt", the term Puerto Rican is clearly intended to be offensive.

And, 23.... says "that's just how I talk. Doesn't mean I'm a bigot".
LMAO. Did you miss the point of every discussion, reading and talk on bias, stereotyping race, and gender you ever experienced, or did you simply not experience any?

Also, when 23... says "all you academic types bruise too easily", s/he is again showing his/her tendency to stereotype.
Life is probably really easy if you use few categories, and simply assign everyone you interact with to one of your dozen or so categories.

But the failure to interact with them as individual human beings is where you are being offensive.

Just to be clear, I should mention this:
I warned the numbers person (23...) publicly, but did not issue an infraction. I am a very open-minded person, and I am willing to discuss just about anything. His/her response was fairly pathetic, but we at least engaged in conversation and communicated about the issue.

Suckerbunnie, however, was just being abusive, so I immediately gave him/her an infraction for abuse.

Also to be clear: I have no reason to like Justice Sotomayor. I feel that she is a sell-out, and has betrayed her liberal roots.

And more: I think that mainly people scared of being called "racist" use the word "caucasian", instead of White. I am White, but my ancestors are not from anywhere near the Caucasus. Don't call me caucasian. (I am not saying that anyone did, but just that it would be incorrect.)

I deleted the comment.

There's street discourse and formal discourse, and nary the twain shall meet. An environment such as Bluelight--in which we discuss felonious behavior and seditious ideations--an environment such as Bluelight is conducive to street discourse. The street enables a speaker to utilize emphatic language which in a more formal context could be construed as racist, sexist, jingoist or what have you. If you can agree to that, and also agree to the fact that it's difficult to readily cast off one discourse in favor of the other when one is (in real life) surrounded by and accustomed to the discourse that must be abandoned . . . if you can at least acknowledge that then we will have communicated.

I'm sorry about my former tone.

I do agree that street discourse and formal discourse differ radically, and that it is not always easy to switch from one to the other.
Whether racism or sexism suddenly becomes acceptable because it is placed within the context of street discourse, I cannot address at length now, but I believe that it isn't.

And I accept your apology.
I remembered you being a reasonable person, from your former posts, so I am glad that we could talk about this.

They still have a chance to fight it.

Theres another case just like this in Indiana.

Wake up people your constitutional rights are being questioned and being taken away one by one. What can u do about it, get involved. I know that shit sounds crazy but unless u gonna go balls to walls and ruling yourself u need friends.

Messed up shit but the police can basically can do everything and anything they want.

I'm still convinced that most police officers don't even know the smell of burning cannabis/growing cannabis, or can tell the difference between the smell of burning/growing cannabis vs. another, perfectly legal plant.

There is plenty of information in erowid.org's legal section about how police are not trained like a drug dog and they actually cannot discriminate against it. There are reasons why this is true for any of us as well; since there are plants which aren't marijuana which exude the same odor, as well as what if my next door neighbor's weed smoke reeks my apartment up too?

My feelings on this decision is that it's totally fucking wrong. What if I'm sitting at home tripping balls, and just don't want to answer my door? What if I'm tired, have had a long day at work, and moan when I hear the door knocking but am not fully awake?

This is just wrong on too many levels. If I'm not crying for help when I hear the door knocking, the cop shouldn't come running into my apartment. :\

this is straight bullshit.

"But that's not what King and fellow apartment residents did. They started scuttling around suspiciously upon hearing police announce their presence. "Occupants who choose not to stand on their constitutional rights but instead elect to attempt to destroy evidence have only themselves to blame," Alito wrote."

who wants to define to me what suspicious scuttling sounds like compared to normal scuttling...
I'd like an definite answer so I know how not to move in my own home next time I decide to smoke inside on the off chance an officer arrives at the door... wouldn't want o risk sounding suspicious.

I have seen old people who would take about 10 minutes of "scuddling" to be able to get to the front door and open it.

So is the cop to bust down the door when the poor old woman is right behind the door, only to get shoved to the ground? Oh well, there goes a knee or a hip who cares... :x

I don't see how police can "hear a noise" and then enter an apartment because of it. If this happened to me, I'd swear someone was trying to rob/kill us so I'd go for a gun if I had one. Wouldn't you??? :\

So, it seems that it's better to answer the door and tell the cops they are not welcome to enter, I guess?

You have nothing to lose by standing your legal ground, just explain you are happy to oblige with talking to them outside of your residence, but that it's messy and you wouldn't want them to have to come in.

Insist on it like you're a kind person and not someone sketching out.

Seattle cop free to continue beating the “fucking Mexican piss” out of people

Last year, Shandy Cobane, a racist thug employed by the Seattle Police Department, assaulted Martin Monetti, Jr. while he was lying on the ground compliantly. “I’m going to beat the fucking Mexican piss out of you, homey. Feel me?” Cobane taunted. Then he and a fellow officer, Mary Woollum, began stomping on Monnetti’s head and arm. Several other officers were present, but none intervened. The stomps left visible marks on Monetti’s forehead.

Wow, remind me never to visit Seattle... :\

I've been taking my smoking outside for some time now. It's just safer.

While if you have a safe area to do this it may be true - it isn't all the time. I know someone who was charged with possession for holding onto the end of a roach from a blunt, and it definitely wasn't enough to get a minimum possession charge, so he had his charge dismissed.

Do you know how much money he had to waste on a lawyer to get that to happen though?

Because of shit like this - I think smoking inside is safe. You just need to be extra careful to know how to protect yourself, and you have to know your rights. Without knowing your rights, you really don't have any.

Thats another plus of learning your rights. You learn that You can REPRESENT yourself, and not pay a lawyer. Or if you do pay a lawyer at least you will be knowing that he is legitimately working for you. Most wont. Read your rights, find out what is still applicable to YOU.

Sadly tho most dont take the time to check them out. Dont wait till someone knocks on your door people. Shits real. Good post mane.

There is more to worry about. On going case in massachusetts of police saying that they smelled powder cocaine after a traffic stop to effectuate an auto search. Locating 85 grams, packed up and in camera bag and lunch cooler. Claiming that cocaine always has a smell and it is always the same, like "burnt earth". The case is awaiting on a suppression decision. The cocaine was cut with three odorless adulterants/diluents. The state chemist explained that cocaine when hydrolyzing creates methyl benzoate which has an odor, he said that cocaine always smells like newly cut grass. From my research of cocaine; the hazardous substances data bank lists it as odorless. And i also find that although methyl benzoate does have an obvious smell, when emitted from cocaine it is smelled by k-9, not the human nose.
