Here are some supplements that I consider worth taking daily:

Mg (chelated)
Omega 3 fish oils
A probiotic
supplementary digestive enzymes
Vit B complex

What do you guys take? Would love to hear what the HL forum adds to make their healthy, balanced diet even better 8o

I currently take:

Multivitamin x 1
Vitamin c x 1
and Omega 3-6-9 x 1

I used to take Magnesium Malate to help with the brain zaps I was experiencing and I think that it has helped me in beating the damn brain zaps off. I also used to take 2 x omega 3-6-9 and vitamin b complex due to the comedown but I am not taking them anymore and prefer to consume them naturally (from food).

What is "Mg" and what are "supplementary digestive enzymes" and why should people take them??

I take:

a multi vitamin
Acidophilous
Vitamin B complex
Vitamin D
Fiber

and on days I work out I take Potassium and Magniessium for muscle cramping.

^mg means magnesium. Supplementary digestive enzymes are supplements that mimic the effects of naturally occurring digestive enzymes found within our bodies that aid in the digestion of food. Some of these are: Bromelain, Lactase and Papain.

I take a multi vitamin, omega 3+6 fish oil, zinc/ magnesium, vitamin B complex daily, most of them mainly because I do not eat meat.

Vitamins B12, D
I also take a probiotic pill or powder before eating certain foods and after taking antibiotics, I think there are 6 different strains.
I use lactaid pills if consuming a fair amount of lactose.

There is no supplement one MUST take. All the above things you listed could be gotten through diet.

Yeah you don't HAVE to take any supplements.

That being said, I take iron and vitamin B12. B12 is daily, iron is pretty regularly. I take a multi-vitamin a couple times per week. In the winter, I take vitamin C and zinc in hopes that it helps me not get sick as much. I'm vegetarian and yes I know I can get iron and stuff from my diet but there are times that I don't pay enough attention to it and then I end up lightheaded so iron is very important for me.

Exactly.

I occasionally take calcium, magnesium and multivitamins but I take zinc and d3 on a regular basis cause my diet is deficient in those two, and I get very little sunlight.

Edit : I also take melatonin but only when I need to fall asleep early, once a week or less on avg.

I forgot about the title by the time I read other posts and responded. What about people with certain conditions though? For example, if someone had pernicious anemia, how would they get enough B12 from their diet? I don't have it, eat meat and other decent sources and I'm still deficient if I don't supplement. It would be even more difficult for someone with the disorder.

Okay perhaps the title was wrong.

I was just wondering what people here thought of as being good supplements to take and why.
I'm currently recovering from illness so trying to get my body back to baseline....however it must be said that I don't eat that great a diet at times, so need the supplements. I also get Vit D injections once in a while as I am dark skinned and don't get much sunlight. I am not deficient per se, as I eat meat, fish and eggs and dairy, but my levels are quite low.

^some people do both, eat healthy, exercise and take supplements and I'm one of those who choose to do all of these. I believe that multivitamin is very important, vitamin c for a boost of resistance and omega for brain function.

Oh yeah I forgot I take melatonin too to sleep.
Also I take GABA supplements daily, in the morning. It helps my anxiety.

^ just a quickie on melatonin, hoping not to derail here.

I purchased some quite a while back for getting clean. But stupidly had no idea about dosages.

So I went to find them yesterday (my sleep pattern has been completely screwed coming off droogs), and found that they contain 10mg of melatonin! That's way too much hey?

I was under the impression that 1mg would be a good starting point, half an hour before bed. But with these 10mg capsules I gave up last night on attempting it.

Is it water soluble? I was thinking about mixing a cap into 100mls of water and taking 10ml when I need it.

I obviously haven't looked into this properly, but since jumping I've been sussing this thread out, and just noticed flyhighk's post.

EDIT: (un-derailment). Currently taking fish oil, bio-magnesium and b complex. All with my porridge in the morn.

The only thing I'm not liking is that my acid reflux has come back in full force.

Like others say must = none.

But due to being indoors a lot make sure to consume sources of D. Possibly iodine especially if you don't live near the sea. Salt only has the minimum. You can handle a lot more iodine. Magnesium is one that is good to get more of, because your digestive tract doesn't absorb it so well, or that's what I have heard. I'd recommended transdermal magnesium. Vitamin C has contradictory info on it, but a little extra shouldnt hurt. Some people recommend like 15+ grams a day. B vitamins can be good. Vitamin K2.

Since vitamins aren't usually enzymatically active on their own its good to take them with food and/or enzymes.

Which GABA supplements do you take and how do you feel they benefit you?

I forgot to mention I quite regularly take 5-HTP to sleep better (deeper) too

1mg is a good starting point indeed. You can even start with less (there are 100mcg pills available). IMO if you're using it regularly, take as little as possible.

It's very soluble in ethanol (around 50mg/ml) so you could dissolve the contents in very little alcohol and take as much as needed. It's slightly soluble in water (you should be able to dissolve 10mg in 100ml but I'm not sure). Either way, keep the solution in a dark place and in the fridge as it decomposes if exposed to light and/or high temperatures.
