Supplements one MUST take

1mg is a good starting point indeed. You can even start with less (there are 100mcg pills available). IMO if you're using it regularly, take as little as possible.

It's very soluble in ethanol (around 50mg/ml) so you could dissolve the contents in very little alcohol and take as much as needed. It's slightly soluble in water (you should be able to dissolve 10mg in 100ml but I'm not sure). Either way, keep the solution in a dark place and in the fridge as it decomposes if exposed to light and/or high temperatures.

Thanks.

Boggles me why they even made a 10mg capsule?

Is it water soluble? I was thinking about mixing a cap into 100mls of water and taking 10ml when I need it.

Yeah, melatonin can be pricey if you're buying it in tablet form or whatever so my boyfriend put ours in an eye dropper. He mixed it with alcohol previously. I should ask him how he makes it. I just take a drop or two of it and I'm good. Taking melatonin is much better (for me) than taking diphenhydramine or benzos to sleep anyway. I have never noticed anything negative and I've been using it for probably over a year.

Which GABA supplements do you take and how do you feel they benefit you?

I forgot to mention I quite regularly take 5-HTP to sleep better (deeper) too

When I take 5-HTP at night, I will have vivid dreams and wake up with nightmares. I don't regularly dream ... 5-HTP gives me terrible dreams. I will, however, sometimes take it in the mornings.
I don't think there are many GABA supplements. I think it just relaxes me a bit. I mean, not super noticeably like a benzo. Definitely not that strong. But I have moderate to severe anxiety and GABA just chills me out a bit. I notice the difference when I forget to take GABA for a few days. I will become more anxious, I guess how I used to be (before I started taking GABA). I take it regularly, every morning. I don't think there is much point in it unless you have anxiety though.

Yeah 5-HTP gives me vivid dreams too, which I like. I do get nightmares from time to time too, but nothing too serious.
Concerning anxiety I have my good and bad days I guess, so perhaps it is worth looking into.

^septon maybe you can try rhodiola for anxiety, perhaps start with rhodiola tea and see if that works out for you.

I have good/bad days with anxiety too. Definitely look into GABA! I tried it once before I slept and it gave me bad dreams too. If that kinda thing doesn't effect you, nighttime may be okay. But I make sure I take my GABA (or 5-HTP) in the morning. I'd really recommend checking it out!!

My boyfriend's sister is who advised GABA for me, she also advised rhodiola. She said rhodiola was more for helping prevent panic attacks and GABA was for reducing anxiety. I don't get serious panic attacks, and not regularly, so I was good with the GABA. I haven't tried rhodiola at all but I trust her information (considering the GABA works well for me) so the rhodiola is definitely a good suggestion as well!!

I think she's talking about GABA, the acid itself, not a derivative.

Phenibut and picamilon are GABA derivatives sold as supplements, but when a bottle says GABA it's usually GABA, not a derivative.

Aha yes sorry! Exactly!

Spirulina & Chlorella

Red Maca Powder

Shilajit Powder

Protein powder (currently whey & hemp; Phood and PlanetFusion on deck)

Rhodiola

Moringa Powder

Rhodiola is pretty awesome for anxiety, motivation, and depression, in my experience.

5-HTP also gives me bad dreams. But also lifts the mood during the day. It's sort of a trade off that I eventually got tired of making.

I may have to give rhodiola a try too. If it could help regular anxiety, why not?
5-HTP and GABA, I can't have those before bed. I make sure I have those in the mornings and I don't get bad dreams. It's only if I take them later on in the day. If I forget to take it one morning, I'll just skip a day and then take it the next day. It beats those nightmares :P

There's little to no evidence showing that it does cross the bbb at significant levels, but it does seem to work.

Rhodiola. It was the subject of discussion for, like, the previous four posts of that post.

I do know some people who swear by Rhodiola and how it has helped calm anxiety specially for those who are coming off a comedown, again everyone is different so what may work for one may not work for another.

^ The same discussion is ongoing for 5-htp but I know that I really do benefit from it.
Call it a placebo effect (something I do strongly believe in), but what works works, right?

We were talking about rhodiola, GABA, 5-HTP. It's good if you refer to what you're talking about so that people know what you're talking about.

Some people claim the GABA has a placebo effect but I am confident it doesn't for me.
5-HTP, I can't tell if it has a placebo effect or not. I haven't experimented with it enough. It's hard to judge.
