Super Important - Drugs and Driving

De Quincey I think phireXZ's issue is more of a fatigue one.
If you drop @ 12 and drive off @ 9am, I think you are much more likely going to be effected by the fact you haven't slept than the fact you've taken drugs.
I actually think that's the main issue here. Not so much driving after taking drugs, but driver fatigue.

*puts foot firmly up topic's butt*
Get up there and stay there!
------------------
First I heard a rustling, then there was this sound, I finally realised the pogo sticks were coming to chase me down!

anfa: yeah it's a combination of the two factors. basically, it works out like this:
drug scat + no sleep scat = you shouldn't really be driving home after a party!
and besides, i really quite enjoyed my train ride home in the sun with Pekkie this morning...

"What's DQ?"
The Post-It note on the windscreen strikes again!
[and if you don't understand, please take the time to read the paragraph of mine, kindly quoted by DQ at the beginning of this thread]
Screw the moral bandwagon. This method works.
Every
Single
Time!

near the top already but *bump* all the same...
if your gonna take drugs then drive leave a resonalble amount of time between dropping and driving (ie. more than 6 hrs to be resonably safe(
and no driving when your sleepy neither!

hope all you earthcore people got home safely.
i loved the bus ride home, it was choice and lots of shit was spun. but for all you drivers... hope you were safe.

hmmm.... 100 + plus bluelighers at Earthcore and I recognised only 5 on the bus to and from the city / gatecrasher. Perhaps some of us are talking the talking but not walking the walk....
*getting off high horse now*
------------------
Shut up. If I wanted to listen to an arsehole, I would have farted.

i haven't posted in this before... i tend to get quite worked up about it... but, there are times i feel quite hypocritical... although i don't have a licence, i have got in cars with scattered drivers in the past... so... i can't say i haven't, but i can say i wont...

to tell you the truth, this thread makes me sad...

people just don't want to learn do they... ignorance is bliss eh? well, live in that bliss... any solid object at 50+km/ph should bring you out of it quick smart. any faster and it's quite likely you wont wake from that ignorance...

dq has shared his story to show how much damage driving in a scattered/chopped state can do...
learn from it... as you can see, this lesson isn't just for your own sake.

wisest is he who knows that he does not know...

well it's happened again. another person has died in an accident involving drugs. another totally unneccessary death. i'm simultaneously incredibly sorry and incredibly angry. please guys, don't let it be you next time.
but like nezo said, a lot of bluelighters drove home after earthcore, and after other parties.
fuck that.

i have driven relitivly small distances after parties on a number of occasions, but last weekend i really crossed that line and almost became a statistic myself. after brisbane adventjah i drove back to canberra, i think i blacked out on putty road or just flinched enough to really knock some sence into me.
please ppl do not drive after drug taking....
you only get 1 life

Driving whilst under the influence of any drug is one of the most incredibily selfish things that anyone can do.
To those of you who have read the threads and have heard the warning but still drive then hear this:
I DON'T GIVE A FUCK IF YOU KILL JUST YOURSELF WHILST DRIVING HOME FROM A PARTY AND ARE UNDER THE INFLUENCE.
That may sounds harsh but you made the decision and now you will have to live (or in the this case, die) by it. You'll get no sympathy from me or many others on this website.
However, putting someone else's life at risk, whether it be a friend, a stranger, another driver is incredibly selfish. I can't put enough words around how wrong that is. It's akin to playing Russian Roulette but with pointing the gun at someone else's head.
Look after yourself, your friends, your family. Play it safe.

The most important thing to say right now, is for everyone who is driving back from Kryal this weekend BE CAREFUL. Please please please rest before you leave, and make sure you've got a passenger who is awake and talking to you the entire time.
There's going to be ample space out the front of the castle if you want to pitch a tent and have a sleep, and if worse comes to worse, have a little bump of wizz and stay alert.
goodluck, be careful.

i think the idea is to get some sleep before you drive home, and don't have too many drugs the night before if you know you'll be driving the next day. if you plan it properly you shouldn't be needed to bump more drugs just to stay awake.
nezo: i agree entirely.

I gotta admit that I *did* drive home from kryal whilst scat and tired.
You can all flame me, I dont really care. This is my reality.
But in saying that, I did learn an extremely valuable lesson. I *knew* I was tired but was a little too impatient to get home (as most of you will agree when you're tired and scat and completely worn out after a big night theres nothing more inviting than crawling into your own bed, however far away that may be). I wasnt driving alone, I had 3 others in the car but they were all equally as tired. Except for Anna who stayed awake and watched me drive home, and I thank god for that (what would I do without ya man? :) ).
Anyway, Im posting to say that I did actually "drift off", i dunno if you'd call it sleeping but its like you suddenly blink and realise you have nfi what happened during the past 5mins. However, after each time I did pull over and rest. But it *is* so very easy to say to yourself, "just another few minutes, I'll be fine.." and suddenly you realise that your car is drifting across the road..
I'm not up with this whole 'you're all fucked in the head if you drive after a big night' kinda mentality, coz there *are* times when you *do* feel fine, as long as you are responsible enough to recognise the fact that you have been up all night and/or taken drugs/alcohol and take the necessary extra precautions. I can guarantee that I am a whole lot more alert to whats going on around me when I know that I've had a big night, coz I sure as hell dont want to kill anyone or myself for that matter. Tho as much as I'm sure others do the same, I will stay awake if someone else is driving under the same circumstances, and hey thats prolly good. One thing I've learnt now is that if you *hafta* drive and you know that you're not at 110% then make sure that theres someone else there that can keep an eye on you - at least then if you do look like you're slipping away they can yell out at you and bring you back.
Ofcourse in a perfect world no one would do anything irresponsible and we'd always do the right thing. But hey, we're all stupid and arrogant in our own right and think we're fine when maybe we really arent quite as fine as we think. All I can say is evaluate your situation, if you can make sure someone else is there to be with you (coz you're a lot more likely to do something stupid by yourself), and ITS OK TO STOP! no one in your car is gonna tell you to keep driving if you're tired.
All that said and done, just remember theres a time when we all hafta leave the party and start thinking responsibly about what we do, coz yes, there are so many things that could go wrong.
</rant>
im done :)
stace.
