Polly
Bluelighter
I try my best to stand up to the thing that's haunting me -
Haunting my every thought and making it hard for me to breathe.
I try with all my heart, I try with all my soul,
But I fall - fall down where no living being should ever go.
My mind starts to shut down and I can no longer speak.
I know that soon I'll forget what life's supposed to be.
My tongue swells in my throat and my eyes cease to see.
My body goes completely limp - is this how it's supposed to be?
But there's something in the darkness - it's calling out my name,
Telling me that it's okay and it'll all go away.
"You can beat it," says the voice, "You only have to try.
It's hard, but you just have to," it says with a final cry.
A tear slips down my cheek as air moves down my throat
Forced by a pair of lips of someone I feel I know.
My body jolts, my eyes refocus, and I muster my strength to cry,
"Please help me, Shawn - I can't go on - but I don't want to die."
