Subutex/suboxone & Euphoria

A simple question like this belong in Basic Drug Discussion. Generally Other Drugs handles discussion on buprenorphine but as this has nothing to do with withdrawal, interactions etc. and just if you can feel euphoria so I'll move it over.

suboxone can get me REALLY high if i havent taken any for a while. if i try to take it multiple times in a row the euphoria usually disappears after about a week.
 
People have told me they were able to get real high from buprenorphine. I'm on Suboxone maintenance and ever since switching from Methadone I've never felt anything resembling a high but it does put me into the right state of mind and gives me an excellent mood lift. Its just never given me that classic opioid high. My assumption is that I already had a very high tolerance, was taking 130mg of Methadone before going onto it. But like I said, I have heard many people say that they have gotten a long lasting high from it. Suboxone also seems to be more stimulating that the rest of the opiates, just to let you know.

I too am on Suboxone maintenance and I got high during the induction phase. Literally two days later, I couldn't feel much of any euphoria. Just motivation and mood lift, which is fine with me. Sometimes I will take Ultram (tramadol) with my sub dose in the morning to catch a small buzz. And with that buzz, you really have to concentrate on it to feel it.
 
Before I had my dope habit and got prescribed 16mg a day of suboxone, about 4 years ago I swallowed 2 8mg suboxone not knowing what they were. My friend had them, knew they fucked you up somehow but neither of us knew what they were or that you shouldnt swallow them. I had popped perks and vikes here and there but wasnt an addict yet. Well about an hour later, I was completely fucked up, more so than I can remember in my whole life, except for the time I snorted a couple dilaudid. Well the high was amazing and lasted about 10 hours. I finally got home around 9 or 10 at night, and started projectile vomiting in my driveway for about 30-45 minutes. So yes, you can get pretty fucked up off them if you have no tolerance, but it can also be very dangerous. I usually only take 2-4mg a day and sell the rest, but I could easily take a full 8mg under the tongue and not get messed up. I may feel a little bit more happy, I guess you could say, but Ill never be able to get that same feeling from them again.

Just had to say that this is quite correct as well. When I used to take it every once in awhile, it would make me feel relaxed like taking a vicodin or two. Now it makes me a bit jittery and anxious. I'm also prescribed 4mg of xanax a day and if I dont take my xanax with my suboxone, I start to feel a bit of panic and anxiety.
 
To be completely honest, I only use Suboxone in between my "binges."

When I run out of Oxy, I always have Suboxone on hand. I just tried it not too long ago, but this week is the second time I've been on it after being out of my DOC (Oxy).

Thus far, I haven't been able to get high. By comparison, my Oxy habit was light (peaked about 30-45mg a day) and I'm only taking .5mg of Sub twice a day.

Perhaps that dose is too low for any euphoric effects, but on the positive I haven't had even one nervous moment of w/d.

I do feel an ever so slight "sense of well-being," but it's not the hard euphoric rush of snorting a line of blue pixie dust.

For what they are, however, Subs are amazing.
 
I have been on maintenance for almost a year now. I am on 10mg a day and all it will do under the tongue is make me feel normal. No high or buzz at all(all though I have heard of people on maintenance getting slight euphoria from normal use). However when I am having a really shitty day or something I will snort 2-4mg of suboxone and get marginally high from it.

I however would STRONGLY recommend not doing this.

1. The slight high I do feel is a really dirty one. It doesn't feel that great but I used to snort and shoot my dope so it at least gets the mental part that I need to put something in my nose feeling better.

2. It is up their with the worst things I have ever snorted(not the worst by far but up their). I have heard differently from other people but to me snorting that shit is a terrible experience. Unlike most other drugs, when I am feeling a need to snort a sub it's not something I look forward to(but it's better than running out and copping).

3. People without serious addictions or recreational opiate users should stay the fuck away from trying to do suboxone to get high. If you really need to feel a buzz that $10-$15 you just spent on a suboxone could be used towards a much better way of getting high.

I left part of my script(I never carry the whole thing on me...just what I need)at a friends house and each of them snorted an 1/8 to a 1/4 of one of my suboxone. Both of them were pretty fucked up but they both said the body high was really shitty and ended up puking every time they moved from laying down. My brother had a similar experience when he tried snorting a 1/4 of a sub with a low/moderate opiate tolerance.
 
I've NEVER been able to feel a high from Suboxone, even the first time that I used it. The thing is, I was switching over from 130mg of Methadone and had gone 2 days without it before switching. So withdrawals from the Methadone were starting to creep up and Methadone withdrawals are the absolute worse. Only time that I felt like I was going to die from the withdrawals even knowing I couldn't.
 
As I mentioned, for me it's really not euphoric at all.

When I need it like I mentioned I do .5mg x2/day.

The one time I tried to catch some kind of positive buzz off it I went with just under 1mg and just felt sick. I didn't vomit or anything, but was very dysphoric, "cloudy," and nauseous. Wasn't pleasant.


So I strictly use a Sub to prevent w/d.


I do have to add that one of my best buddies with 0 opiate tolerance was given an 8mg Sub by some jackass who didn't tell him how strong it was. He took it sublingually and was fucked up for a good 20 hours.

The point is, I know people say you can OD on Subs like anything else, but I don't really understand how/why. It supposedly has a ceiling effect on respiratory depression and all, and my friend's story seems to verify that. Proportionally to not having any tolerance for any opiate, 8mg seems like a MASSIVE OD.

Perhaps OD'ing on a Sub requires mixing it with another sedative, like alcohol? I'm asking because I don't know. But Subs ARE strong, even if the experience isn't positive, you will feel something. Like I said, the one time I took about 1mg with my low Oxy tolerance I was totally out of it.

Oh yeah, somebody with no tolerance would get totally fucked up. Without a tolerance I believe you could get messed up from buprenorphine. I've never tried it without an opiate tolerance.

Exactly, before I got into shooting 2-3 bags of dope a day etc, then taking 2-8mg a day for the last 18 months, I had only take suboxone once. At that time I had only dabbled in pills, but only did it on occassion and didnt have a high tolerance at all. Me and my friend didnt know what it was, took 16mg each (orally btw) and we got messed up 18 hrs straight before passing out. However, about 12 hours in I started projectile vomitting which lasted about an hour. Now I dont feel anything when taking suboxone except for being not sick....Wish I could still feel something from them.
 
It used too. Now either my tolerance is too high and I can't get high off of it...Also now all I can get is the strips.. I used to snort the pills when I ran out of my pain meds. I ate 4 8mg strips and couldn't get high (in the spirit of harm reduction I don't suggest you try this unless you have taken that much or have a high opiate tolerance) .. So I don't bother anymore. I use Suboxone for what it's made for and that's it. It really helps when I run out of my meds, not for pain but atleast no WD.
 
Yep... you can get high with a low tolerance, it is a strong opioid and can get you high, but people with a low tolerance do need to be careful and respect it - however is far best used for it's intended purpose, especially if you need it for maintenance.
