My Dr. gave me sub to help with coming off vicodin. My dependence wasn't that high, about a year and a half on 3 a day. I've been told by a few people that sub is way to strong for such a small dependence which is probably true. Anyway my problem is I started the sub two days ago after waiting 16 hrs. since my last dose of vicodin. I was feeling pretty crappy in withdrawal and the sub actually helped and I felt better. Although it kept me awake that night, I got about 4 hrs of broken up sleep. Yesterday I continued on the sub (I've only been taking a quarter of a piece or less) and it had started to make me feel crappy. Shortly after taking it I get sleepy and vertigo mixed with some anxiety and nausea. If I get up and move around my muscles feel tired, weak, and shaky. The same thing happened after this mornings dose. I'm guessing those symptoms are side effects of the Sub? If I stop taking the Sub I'm likely to have withdrawal so my choices are feel like crap with the Sub and hope the side effects go away or stop taking the Sub and feel like crap in withdrawal.

With a three vike a day habit, I'd think you're better off with out the subs. Just my opinion, but going on subs from 30(at most) mg of Vicodin seems like jumping out if the frying pan and into the fire. WD's suck, but they'll be over a lot quicker from vikes than subs.

Yeah a lot of people are saying they are too strong but I don't understand why they are making me feel the way they do. The first day I took them I had no problem but since yesterday I've been having bad side effects.

Since you're coming off such a low dose of hydrocodone, and having a bad reaction to the subs, I'd ask your doc to put put you back of the vics and just taper down with the vics. Maybe ask if there is anything to help ease the effects of WD, as in benzos. Just make sure you're not getting refills, so as not to have the possibility of getting hooked on benzos and have the fun of going through those WDs. And really at the end of the day, jumping off 5mg TID of hydrocodone shouldn't be the worst WDs, and they should be pretty light if you just taper off, especially if you're using benzos or weed to help ease the pain.

Buprenorphine for 15mg a day of hydrocodone? That is absurd. Seriously, taking subutex is highly counterproductive if you are wanting to quit taking vicodin. And if you're experiencing adverse effects from it, then stop taking it. The w/d from vicodin will not be bad, and should subside within a few days. If you get a bunch of bupe in your system, you'll have to contend with a long drawn out process of tapering from that instead of a simple short lived one from where you are now.

Yeah I was hoping my Dr. would switch me back to a vicodin taper but no. He gave me instructions for tapering of the sub (even though I haven't been on it long) and prescribed me clonindine for anxiety. I think the only thing I like about the sub is I don't crave vic while on it. Without it I do. I honestly don't know why he gave me the Sub. We were working on tapering me off vics but then I went back up in dose because of pain. Then I got the pain taken care of but instead of putting me back on the taper he asked if I wanted to be off vicodin and I said yeah and he gave me the Sub.

Wow personally I'd look for a new doc. Subs for a 15-30 mg Vic habit seems ridiculous to me. What mg sub does he have you on?

I go so far and say that you might be taking to much bupe for a relatively small habit. As in the dose your taking has way more of an agonist action vs that of 30 mg a day of hydrocodone.

My gf who maintains herself on 15-35 mg of hydro for years barfed for an entire day, dizzy, weak, tired after taking a 2 mg sub.

When I first started sub I was around 90 mg of hydro a day and the first time I took my bupe I got the most amazing opiated feel ever(that ended very quickly). So you actually might be ADDING to your dependence by getting on bupe.

Talk to your doctor and see if he can slowly lower your dose of Hydrocodone until 0mg's, kicking you off on subutex is pretty hardcore considering you are coming off a low dose of hydrocodone, if it were me i would just get some weed, a few benzos and some good movies and just ride it out. but im far beyond that right now.

this is just another example in doctors lining there pockets from pharmaceutical kickbacks.

Oh my God i would LOVEEEE if my doctor did this. That would be the tightest-ass thing a doctor ever did for me lol.

Trying to get off of Vicodin with Subutex is kind of like the 1800's when heroin was first synthesised and sold OVER THE COUNTER as the cure for Morphine addiction. Look how well that turned out LOL!!

It's like if American's dropped a nuke on Cuba if they tried some brazen ass shit...like if too many illegals swam over and we nuked them to kill all those..swimmers.
So In a nutshell, it sounds really cool but it will probably hurt more than help.

At the max it sounds like you were taking 30mg of hydrocodone a day?? thats not really that much, definately enough for some moderate WD, but nothing you couldn't taper off with your supply of vics and some good ol'fashioned will power.
