I am planning on starting a 12 day subutex rapid taper plan. I have 2 8mg subutex pill. I have been smoking .5g of heroin for about 8 to 10 months with brief sobriety in between (ranging from 4 to 10 days). I finally have the state of mind of quitting for good and the family support that I need.

my 14 day taper plan:
day 1 4mg
day 2 and 3 3mg
day 4 and 5 2mg
day 6 skip
day 7 1mg
day 8 1 mg
day 9 skip
day 10 skip
day 11 .5mg (if needed)
day 12 done

I have used a 4 and 5 day taper program before and relapse every single time. Now that I have some time of work, family support, and means to finally quit, I am ready to take my life back and never go back to the drug world ever again.

I need to know if I'm tapering to fast?
if I need to adjust my dosage for each designated day?
any comments or advice to other short term plan?

I only have 14 days off work with 2 8mg subutex in my disposal. I will also be using OTC such as immodium, vitamins, etc and I will also be exercising on a daily basis (I exercise on a regular basis before i started using heroin). I am planning on starting my tomorrow so immediate help would be helpful, thank you in advance.

Ps. I have read number of articles, forums, and from my own experience made up this personalized plan of mine. I tried incorporating Roberts taper plan when i made my plan.

the previous taper program i tried was only 3 days long and i think by trying a 12 day taper, i can mentally overcome the cravings which was always the reason i would relapse.

do you think that my 12 day taper plan and dosage is sufficient to prevent minimal withdrawals from subutex?

ok thanks im also thinking of doing switching my plan to dosing

4 3 2 1 1 1 .5 .5 .25 .25 skip .25 skip .25 done

which in your opinion would be the better plan? i find that by making a strict plan that i can stick to helps minimize the stress and anxiety that comes with quitting opiate.

Honestly I can only speak from my own experience but the lower the dosage you start on the better. I get much stronger effects from < 2mg Buprenorphine than I do from doses above that, and I'm certain it's due to the metabolite Norbuprenorphine, which is a full agonist and much more potent, and which Buprenorphine blocks at higher doses.

One of my friends (well acquaintances but a good one) goes through massive amounts of Heroin, Fentanyl and all sorts of other potent opioids and they told me the best way to taper was to take 2mg Buprenorphine one day, then 2 days later take 1.5mg, then another 2 days later 1mg, then another 2 days later 1mg, then next 2 days 0.5mg, then 1-2 days later either nothing or 0.25mg and end the taper there. I tried it after going through an insane amount of Butyr-Fentanyl over a period of time where my tolerance sky-rocketed to over 40x baseline tolerance, and it worked just fine, only instead of dosing every 2 days, I dosed every 1, and within a week I was clean, a couple of days later I was able to take 150mg Codeine and feel a high almost as good as my first times with opiates.

Don't be scared of the quick taper, I think it's a much better way to do it honestly considering how Bupe builds up in your system, longer tapers are only prolonging the agony and a way for doctors to make extra cash off your subscription.

Your mileage may vary but me and this acquaintance aren't the only people who agree and it's a very quick and painless way to get off opiates.

GL with your taper, I wish you well. I couldn't take subutex past the 1st day during my rehab trip .. caused me to trip hella bad.

i tried getting away with just 2mg on the first day and waited 90 min to judge if i need another 1mg and so on. The last two attempt of quitting heroin for good i found that i always end up taking up to 4mg to stabilize myself. I also tried skipping the second day after taking 4mg of subutex the day prior and skipping every other dose ineffective for me as well. Last time i tried it, i had such a bad anxiety on the days i had to skip that the day after skipping i would go back to using heroin.

I still get anxiety on suboxone at times, but that's because I have to do it a certain way that I've learned, which is different for everyone .. I pinch at 8am & by 4pm I pinch again (less than 1mg) and that takes away that anxiety. But I'm not on suboxone daily, only when I crave and I only use it 3-4 times a year.

I'll have to admit that one day on subutex was enough for me because I was seeing Willy Wonka and my brain was wired. lol
Do you have issues with that?

Yes! I found that splitting my dosage is definitely easier for me mentally and physically. I plan on taking 3mg am and 1mg pm, so by saving at least 1mg couple hours before bedtime I find myself less stressed out. Later on my taper program, I'm planning on taking just one daily dose. I like taking clonopin for the first 24 hours and since I rarely take it, I find myself being able to hold off for 30 plus hours.

I'm glad to hear you are doing extremely well and nice meeting you!

So I just found out that I will only be getting 8mg of subutex instead of the 16mg. Will you guys check if my new taper plan with only 8mg work with minimizing w/d

day 1 3mg
day 2 2mg
day 3-4 1mg
day 5 skip
day 6 .5mg
day 7 skip
day 8 .5mg
day 9 done

Then I would advise not to skip any days. Dose every single day, 25% lower or so than the day before. Come down till you get to around .25mg, then stop. That's a good dose to come off of, IME. Minimal withdrawal, especially if you tapered correctly to get there.

Just about the time you where going to really get hit with Sub WD you did the Codeine. Most (everyone is different) get slammed around day 5 - 7. So If you get to 10 day mark and feel ok I would say your good to go.
