Heroin Subs, lapses, and resuming subs

I am currently stabalized on daily ~1mg of Suboxone. This dose is low enough that I am able to function, but still able to recieve somewhat of a high from IV heroin use. Before, I was only taking subs in between uses, would (re)lapse, wait 24 hours, and take another sub. This is the first time in my recovery I have actually been taking Suboxone daily, and have stabalized my dose.

My question is, now that I have a buildup of suboxone in my body, do I necessarily need to wait for withdrawal symptoms before resuming suboxone? I.e. If i take my sub in the AM, do a shot in the PM, is it concievable to take my suboxone the next AM as usual?

As additional background, this may seem counterproductive, but I have gone from daily IV heroin use to 2, maybe 3, single shots of heroin a week. I have been working toward only 1 shot per week, but at this point I am happy to be taking my subs regularly and no longer being a daily IV user.

When I was stabalized on suboxone and would relapse, provided I didn't go on a run and just kept it to one day or so, I would be able to just hop right back on the suboxone without a problem.

But, you might as well play it safe and just wait until you're sick again just in case. Not everyones body is the same so I can't say how you'll react.

Yeah, it's different for everyone. I'd still probably wait 12-36 hours. If I used heavy for even just a day I'd still have to wait 24 hours before I jumped back on the Sub. Otherwise it was hell.
I'd guess you can take it and be fine after a much shorter amount of time. Because you're only doing one shot and the Sub dose is wonderfully low. But.... Better safe than sorry when it comes to precipitated withdrawals.

from someone who's done this for years, its such a bad routine to get into man. truthfully makes em both suck more.

I've wondered this same question many times. But doesnt it make sense that if your actually getting high off the heroin, then it is attaching to your mu receptors then? Therefore taking sub would knock it off causing pwd? Like i said I've thought about this before yet don't dare to test it myself as i experienced pwd before when i didn't know better, and now will always no matter what, wait till I'm completely sick before taking bupe

True.

Constantly going back and forth from hopping on the H and suboxone will eventually make the suboxone work a lot less efficiently. It also becomes much much harder to make the transition from opiates to suboxone the more times you go back and forth.

This is exactly what my boyfriend and I have been doing the last few weeks. Most days out of the week, we will each use 1mg sub, but about twice a week we will use dope. We can still get high if we use enough bc we are on such a low dose of sub. But the day after we use dope, we always wait at least 18 hrs to dose sub again because my boyfriend has dosed too soon and gotten really sick before. Especially with suboxone; with subutex, for me at least, I don't have to wait as long.

I thought the naloxone intesified the PWs? Or is it only the bupe?

The amount of naloxone in suboxone is too small to be active sublingually. Even it if it was though, bupe has a higher affinity rate than naloxone anyway, so it doesn't matter. The naloxone put in bupe is basically just a scare tactic. It has no effect.

What about IV? I've gotten sick as fuck before from shooting part of a strip too early, but never with a subutex pill. I usually use low doses though, like 1-2mgs. I'm just curious about the way the different chemicals affect the brain though different ROAs

It shouldn't make a difference because it is the bupe itself that causes PW's. Like I said, bupe has a higher affinity rate for your receptors than naloxone does, much higher actually.

Once you have a buildup from daily use, it's usually pretty easy to just resume takin the suboxone as normal (and when you'd normally take it) if you've just used a full agonist once or twice. However it's kind if tricky because there are so many variables-such as the ammount of suboxone you take, the quality of heroij you inject, the ammount of heroin as well as the frequency.

I found it harder no matter what to switch back to suboxone when I was on a lowish maintenance dose (under 2mg/day), especially if I used heroin for more than a day. For some reason I had a much easier time all around on higher dosages as I almost always was able to succeed in breaking through the suboxone.

Anyway, like everyone else is saying, continuing to switch back and forth makes things so much more difficult over time. That's not to say you shouldn't be proud of yourself for decreasing you heroin use so dramatically, it's just an unfortunate fact that everyone seems to agree on. It's actually the reason I ended up switching over to methadone after a relapse a year ago-I just had way too hard I a time making the transition, and since I was continually screwing up and going out to buy dope whenever I could, it seemed to make more sense. In the end I'm not sure if it was the right decision as I stubbornly refused to raise my methadone dose to a point at which it would block heroin-and subsequently ended up using dope daily on too of the methadone for months on end. Anyway, I'm just using my experience to illustrate how difficult the transition can become.
