need a little info. my girlfriend is wanting to quit taking oc 80's is suboxone the best way to go

Depends on how bad her habit is. Sometimes just a mild taper is good enough because wds from sub can be worse than wds from oxy or skag. More info please.
 
3 to 6 80's a day. she is wanting to quit but is scared of the withdrawls

i think maybe a fast taper on subs could work. you would only need 5 to 7 8mg pills or so....

with 5....

this is an option, and i have tried something similar...

trying a taper is always a good option before full blown maintenance....
 
is that taking all at one time or is it spaced out thru out the day

I personally don't think anyone needs 8mg. I have a rather large Morphine habbit, and I just went 4 days on one 8mg tab. I cut it into 4 pieces and got 4 days out of it, could've gone longer because technically you only really need to dose every other day.

so really, if she got ahold of some 8mg pills, she could cut them in half, and make it last 3-4 days. but be careful, make sure she's in withdrawals before she starts taking the suboxone.

just the other day, I dosed too early on my subs (I shot 2mg up) and I went into precipitated withdrawals, which is worse than just letting yourself go into normal withdrawals. I really thought I was gonna die for about an hour. I immediately started sweating hardcore, and was very cold, I turned super pale, and then almost grey. ended up passing out on my bed, woke up about 3 hours later covered in wet bedding because I had sweated on EVERYTHING. but when I woke up those 3 hours later, I felt much better, because I guess by then the suboxone had fully taken over. but boy were those 3 hours pure hell. so again, make sure she's in full withdrawal before dosing with suboxone.

Well, let take the highest amt.,because that's realistically what she's doing. That's 480mg/day. One can pretty easily, IMO cut that in half, and not start clucking. Stay on that a couple of weeks and cut in a half again. That would put her at around 120mg/day. This is about as far as I can really ever taper.

Now the WDs are bad at this level, but certainly doable. 3 days are the worst, and then it gradually gets better. She can have NO ACCESS to the OC, you better control the stash.

I look at the subs. as more of a maintenance situation. Something you do until you can get your DOC. I know people come off it, but with it's long half-life,I just can't help but to compare it to 'done. Although, not nearly as bad.

I have been 480mg and higher for years. I would never, ever go on Methadone, period. When I run out, which is often, I go on 2mg subs/day. Takes a few days to adjust, but I do just fine.

just make sure she's really ready to quit, if she is then a quick taper on subs would probably work well, if she feels like she's not going to make it after she gets off the subs then she could switch to maintenance.

if she's not ready to quit she won't, doesn't matter what you do, she may want to quit but still not actually be ready to quit. if she's not ready to quit sub maintenance may work at a high enough dose but it's really different for each individual.
 
thanks for the input she does want to quit. she talked to her doc, she goes back monday then we go from there. he specializes in suboxone for opietes

update,
went to doc yesterday, my girlfriend was taking 4 oc 80 daily, her doc is a specialist for suboxone, she took a pee test wanted to see what her levels was, so he gave her 5 2mg suboxone to start for one day go back tomorrow. she took those 5 pills, and by 2 this afternoon she was in full withdrawl. called him to see what he would do, he wants to see her i the morning, she had to take percs i dont understand why the low dose. he wants to find ouot what will work, to get her off them but if he is the specialist in this why the fuck such a low dosage

SHE TOOK PERCOCET? Well that just fucked things up again. Your not supposed to take opiates for roughly 48 hours or until you begin going into withdrawals before starting Suboxone or you may go into percipitated withdrawals.

And by the way, they always start with a low dose. I started at 8mg.
 
she took percs at 8 last night started suboxone at 11 to day withdrawls started at 3 this afternoon. she waited over 12 hours before taking subs. it sucks watching a love one go thru this. is this a real low dose for taking 4 oc 80s. what would be a good dose for her at that many ocs

she is suppose to go back today about getting an increase in her subs but she is in withdrawl sense yesterday. talk to doc about it he said she might need to get something off the street so she can function to get down to see him and he would increase her dosage didnt say what too. is there a chart saying if you took this amount of opiates this is the amount of subs you need to be on to stop the with drawl if there is a chart can someone link it to me plz looking for help from anyone that can

She is never going to be able to start Suboxone until she stops taking other opiates. Give it a break. She probably keeps going through percipitated withdrawals the more she pops pills. 12 hours may not be enough time. Give it 24 hours at the least although they recommend 48 hours.
 
2mg should hold her all day easy. I think she's manufacturing a little bit of discomfort into full withdrawals. I have a hefty Opana habit, and when I run out /donthave money for more..... I switch to my suboxone about 12 hours later and only take about .5-1mg and i feel perfectly fine.

Not trying to be an ass, but I think she has to realize that she isnt going to feel GOOD like she is use to on suboxones because they dont get you high like that. She's going to feel 'normal' like people without habits do, not everyone feels great all the time.
