Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had some input as to what type of withdraw I am about to face. As many opiate users know, fear of withdraw is very very powerful...this time im hoping the fear is going to be greater than the withdraw..

I have been an off and on OXY user / snorting heroin at the end for about 3 years. Wouldnt consider myself heavy, quit for 6 months here and there using subs for a week or some other method ..pills just wouldnt be around so id use when i could and feel like crap other days..This last time I started using methadone to kick my heroin habit. I was on 30mg dones a day for about 4 months, then switched to subs. This is where my question comes in. The doc told me to take a quarter of an 8mg sub to start after 3 or 4 days off the dones. I took two whole 8mg tabs the next day and felt nothing(obviously ignored the docs instructions, but it didnt throw me into WD from dones). No done withdraw but also NO sub high. I continued to use the subs 16mg a day for two weeks. Still , no withdraw but no high or anything from subs. Then i ran out, had to go get a refill, so i was without the subs for about a day or so. When refilled. I took one 8 mg pill and all of a sudden i was high. the old sub high i knew was possible. So i started abusing it for the next two weeks. I would take 2 or 3 a day. I threw them all away yesterday. So basically i took about 40 to 50 8 mg strips in about a one month period. first two weeks was getting me through methadone withdraw, last two weeks was to get high. I obivously have no self control if i have a script for any kind of drug that sits in front of me.

If all hell breaks loose i have the option to go back to see the doctor on may 10th, about 20 days from now and refill the subs. But im honestly thinking i probably wont withdraw from the subs that bad..never been addicted to them before, yada yada. Im hoping its like the first time i withdrew from roxis. I had been using 30mg a day for about a month and quit, got flu-ish, and bowel movements were very frequent. but i didnt even know i was in withdraw until a friend told me i was. Im wondering if anyone else has had a short term sub use experience and what they went through?

Thanks

I feel bad for people who taper all the way to 30mg only to start bupe at 16mg+ and bring their tolerance back up like crazy.

I was on 80mg methadone for over a year and switched to 12mg bupe..which was more than enough.. I was able to get <8mg in under 2 weeks after that.

You might have felt like you needed more bupe at first, because the transition from methadone to bupe is not an easy one.. no matter how you do it, there will be a transitional phase where no matter how much bupe you take it will not make you feel better.

You would have been much better off just continueing to taper your methadone, or taking doctors orders and only taking 2mg bupe.

Even if one was to take 16mg bupe for a month straight they would have some pretty withdrawals...but you are coming from methadone use. So you are going to definitely have some serious withdrawals. I recommend getting on bupe and tapering your dose as quick as you can and as low as you can, or getting back on methadone and tapering to 1mg and jumping.

Being on 30mg methadone is a much better place to be than 16mg bupe... much much better.
