Hi all.
This is my first post in this forum or any forum.
Not sure what I am meant to do so I will follow what everyone else seems to do and start with a little bit of back history.
I started off using codeine about 5 years ago, a pharmacy worker friend gave it to me, and immediately i was hocked, It was as if i had found the missing piece to my life, all the anxiousness that i felt, depression mood swings vanished. i started on low doses 30mg here and there but that soon evolved into having to cold water extract and the doses got bigger and bigger. i quit quite a few times due to various reasons but never managed to stay away more that the first week, i think this is because i found the cold turkey so mild that it was not much of a reason to stop.
Once i realized i had a bigger problem than i first thought and when i noticed the red flag of using to get over a messy brake up with my ex, i went to the local drugs and drink service (UK based, i really feel for you yanks sometimes with having to pay for everything) they started my on suboxone, i did have reservations about using a sledge hammer to crack a nut but the only other option that i could see was methadone.
Fast forward a year and a half to two years and I am down to 2mg a day from 8mg a day, i was switched to subutex as it comes in 0.4mg tablets, so the taper went like this 4 weeks total dropping 0.4mg a week down to nothing. 1.6mg, 1.2mg, 0.8mg, 0.4mg. right at that point my world was turned upside down and my ex stopped me seeing my daughter (this was nothing to do with drugs as the ex never knew about the subs) I asked to be put back on 2mg a day but this was refused (the service gets paid for every person who tapers off of subs) this is where things spiraled out of control and i relapsed for 6 months, codeine did not work so i moved up to heroin and i gained a 1/2 g a day habit smoked, this slowly moved over to a gram a day of that afghan tan stuff we get in the UK, IM use, it would have been IV but i could not get the hang of hitting veins properly, i truly see this as a blessing in disguise. I made the switch to suboxone again last Monday, it was a pretty shitty week to be honest and 6mg is only just starting to hold me all day.
So that is where I am now at 6mg, the plan is to use this thread over a period of time to keep tabs on my taper down to nothing and all the other things i decide to do for my recovery in between.
First plan is to resume my triathlon training as before my last relapse i was running half iron distance triathlons, I even ran one in the first week after coming off of subs last time. the long cardio helps massively with all aspects of tapering and withdrawals so this is highly recommended to everyone who is trying to quit the subs or any other opiate.
I will leave it there for now and properly update in a weeks time with how I have been over the last week and take it from there.
Again hello to everyone, i am looking forward to chatting to you all during this second attempt at detoxing off of the subs.
