Hi all,

I've been on Sub now for 2 years and have reduced from 16mg down to 2.4mg with very little problem but I hear that the last couple of mg can be a bitch to get off....especially if you've been on it a long time like me.

So I'm looking to hear how others have done it and what I can expect as far as WDs and PAWS. I'm thinking or reducing by .4mg per fortnight til i'm free of it.

All advice and tales of your own experience would be greatly appreciated!:)

Mods can you please move this to BDD?

Yes i was on 8mg subutex daily for 18 months. My last dose was on August 18th of this year. I did 4 days at 6mg, 4 days at 4mg, 4 days at 2mg, then gave what was left to somebody else who destroyed them. I'm not going to lie. It sucked. Bad. I have a long history with opiates, including cold turkey from heroin multiple times, cold turkey from 100mg daily methadone after 4 or 5 years. I would take cold turkey off heroin over the subutex any day, although the heroin w/d are much more intense, I know that it will be over after a week at the most. I'm not trying to scare you, I just went though this and i did it ! I am off subutex, and after i got off the subutex i then quit a 6-8mg a day xanax habit, which I had been doing also for about 18 months.
My advice to you would be to get comfort meds. If your doctor will help, or if you can get benzos, xanax, valium, klonopin, these will help with muscle clenching and sleep a great deal. Clonodine will prevent other symptoms like heart palpitations, gooseflesh and will also help you sleep . Make sure you force yourself to eat, even when you don't feel like it. I noticed that I felt a little better with a full stomache. Over the counter things that can help : Benadryl for sleep and/or Nyquil for sleep and a tiny relief from aches and runny nose. I found that an easily available mixture of Valerian Root/Passion Flower was a GREAT help with my achy legs and just generally relaxing me.
Kratom can greatly reduce withdrawal symptoms, if it is legal where you are, but it is habit forming itself so please be careful if you use that. Same goes with the benzos, take care if you use those as they are very habit forming too . If you have any other questions, feel free to send me a private message, I come to Bluelight several times a day, but I dont always come into TDS.
Bottom line is : it's not easy, it's not fun, it's not comfortable, but nothing worthwhile is. If I can do it (and I did) the YOU CAN DO IT TOO !

Moved to BDD as per OPs request :)
