Suboxone - so sick!

Okay real quick...

I took 15mg percocet at 2pm yesterday. Then at 2am took about .5mg of a suboxone film. I woke up at about 12pm and took about 1mg of suboxone film.because I felt absolutely horrible.

I spent the next 12hrs bed-ridden. Achey, headache, so nauseous, diarrhea, very weak and just overall dizzy and out of it, like I had the flu.

So then I just recently took 10mg of.percocet and feel much better although still lethargic.

what the hell is happening? I have never felt this bad from not taking percocet.

this was my second time taking sub, first time i took little crumb of tablet and felt fine.

what caused this whirlwind? maybe i really did have the flu? took too much sub too soon? any advice greatly appreciated.

It could have lasted even longer, buprenorphine has a long half-life (36-72 hours) and on top of that it stays at opioids receptors longer than classic opioids like morphine etc.

I've read that pws last around an hour.

My typical doc and dose is percocet 15-30 daily, going without any for a week a month.

So i thought it was because I took too much bupe compared to my dependency.

It has been 26 hrs since I originally got sick & I am still not okay. I took a perc 5 a little bit ago. So in 3 days I have taken less than what I would normally take in a single day... so maybe that has something to do with it.

My ass is rubbed raw from diarrhea. My throat is sore from throwing up. I just want to feel better.

Precipitated withdrawal may last an hour when it's caused by a short-acting antagonist like naloxone and it's much easier to get rid of it, because (1) naloxone has a short half-life and (2) theoretically higher doses of an agonist would eventually break through. You must have read about the precipitated withdrawal from naloxone. There's actually not much you can do about precipitated withdrawal caused by buprenorphine, because it's got a very high affinity to opioid receptors, there aren't many opioids used in medicine that have a stronger affinity. Fentanyl and its analogues are the only ones that could force out buprenorphine from opioid receptors, but you'd risk an overdose then, because a great dose of a full agonist would suddenly flood your receptors, so it's hard to control.

A trick that could do a job would actually be taking more buprenorphine, because then more buprenorphine molecules would occupy more opioid receptors, and as a result the overall opioid effect would be greater. Unfortunately, buprenorphine has a ceiling dose as it is a partial agonist, so this would work only to some point, with a high tolerance to a full agonist no dose would help. But at this point, now that 26 hours passed, I would just wait it out if I were you, this should end soon as you haven't taken a massive dose.

Precipitated withdrawal from 15 mg of oxycodone after waiting 12 hours? With a habit of only 15-30 a day. Why are you even using Subs? Just complicating the issue. Suck it up and go through the cold turkey withdrawal, then stop. Its a pretty small dose.

It wouldn't even think PWD was possible from such a small daily dose. If you took 4 mg of bupe after 12 horus of 15 mg oxy, it'd prob kick off the remaining oxy and get you high as kite off the bupe.

Pretty sure this was more of an OD then PWD. He took way more sub then his tiny tolerance would allow. I've gotten that sick off sub before, always from too much.

Am I complicating the habit?

Btw, I am a "she".

Silly girl who likes opiates. I was told that the sub would get me high... But no. Just extremely sick and weak.

As someone who's considered on a pretty high dose 40mg x 6 a day, 6 months ago when first Rx I was on 10mg and accidentally did 2 what a high that was i thought I was going to die, now 6 of 40 does nothing, pretty judgemental. Go cold turkey? I'd like to see that of anyone, but in this day should never be required of of anybody!

Actually, as I'm seeing this, too much buprenorphine would be the same thing as precipitated withdrawal in this case. You wouldn't get diarrhoea or restless legs from too much opioid effect, so this is not an opioid overdose as it would be from too much morphine. It's simply how buprenorphine is. What would precipitated withdrawal then feel like? It's the same thing here.

Go cold turkey? I'd like to see that of anyone, but in this day should never be required of of anybody!

I fully agree. I've been through a lot of withdrawals from various opioids, and yet I wouldn't diminish even withdrawal from codeine. I've got a good comparison between methadone and buprenorphine, and as much as I think methadone should be restricted only to severe opioid dependence, I think a lot of people addicted even to codeine could benefit from Suboxone. I'm not talking about maintenance of course, I mean taper-downs. The high affinity to the receptors doesn't mean much if we're not talking about precipitated withdrawal or blocking effect, it's the intrinsic activity which is much lower than the activity of morphine that codeine is metabolised into.

I still hope that in the future there will be a way to cost-efficiently synthesize morphine analogues that would be partial agonists and less expensive to obtain than orvinols, now that we've got a lot of evidence how to modify the structure of morphine.

But should it have lasted for 12 hours of flu-like symptoms?!

Pretty much every time I would transition to sub from heroin I would get sick for 2-3 days straight. the 1st being severe like barfing etc.. and the 2nd close to unbearable the 3rd bearable.

I have tried everything waiting 24 hours, 36 hours, the only time I didn't experience this was when I had a 4 day wait because i was in jail.

Once you go back and forth enough, well to put it bluntly, your fucked.

I took two 15mg percocets about 24 hours after getting sick from the bupe. I, then, waited 24 hrs from them - and took about 1/3 of the amount that I took when I got sick - &then I didn't get sick. &I felt much much better. My doctor gave me Requip for restless legs and arms... does anybody know if this works?
