Hello everyone, i have a question concerning suboxone and opiates.

My question is when is it safe for me to take opiates again, I only took one 8mg suboxone at 10:30am would i be safe to take my prescription oxycodone tomorrow around 12:00pm and feel anything from them? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Most people find they need to leave it at least 24 hours after buprenorphine (Suboxone) before they get decent effects from another opioid, but it varies - some get good effects after less time where as others take 48 or 72 hours. It also depends on your dose. You might be okay, but I would imagine the effects would be at least a little dulled after 8mg bupe the day before..

Thanks for the quick response!

It usually takes me at least 48 hours before regular opiates feel almost as they should. More like 70%, even after 2 days...

^ Same here. It's best to wait until you feel withdrawals both before you dose suboxone after another opiate, and after you dose it after taking another opiate.

Buprenorphine has a high affinity for your opiate receptors. 24-36 hours after dosing you should be able to feel the oxy but wait until you start mild withdrawal to guarantee full effect. Once you begin withdrawal your brain has begun to shake the bupe.

As it's been stated, wait until you are in withdrawals. If I wait less than 48-72hrs after dosing sub then it's not even worth it because after 48hrs I am only getting about 60-70% of the effects I should be getting. I always wait 3 days, then I can feel about 90% of the effects..

I think we've got confused somewhere along the line - OP took Suboxone first and is asking about oxycodone second, so no risk of precipitated WDs. They would come into play if they had taken another opioid first and were wanting to take Suboxone second :)

I think the poster before you is saying to wait until the bupe is gone, and leaving WD symptoms, before taking the DOC again. Thus allowing the DOC more activity / effect.

Ohh I see. Yeah, that makes sense :) I need a coffee :D

Your not going to get sick for sure. i know of shooting heroin and suboxone in same shot. but from experience you will get most pain relief but no "good effects". it took me 60+ - 72 hours to get full effect .
i have had Bup show up on a urine screen 14 Days! after taking 4-8mg daily for a little over a month

Yeah, 8mg's still carries with it a strong blocking effect. Even after a day there is still a lot of bupe in your system. I find the blocking effects to be pretty much negated below 1 mg, even if you use the same day. But i have a super fast metabolism, so maybe it's just me. However, many of my friends are the same way.

Thanks everyone for the great responses, i took my oxy's today and all went well. I would say the effects of the oxy's were about 20-30% less then if i didn't do suboxone the day before.

^ Now you have to make sure to wait until you are in withdrawal before taking the suboxone again. It is a lot more effective that way, and of course it will prevent you from experiencing precipitated withdrawals. The shortest I ever wait is 18 hours, but I prefer to wait 36 hours. When I only wait 18 hours it's like I just don't experience withdrawals, but I don't feel any of the relief or positive effects of the suboxone.

Today I took 10mg of oxy which obviously didn't do much in terms of keeping withdrawals away, so I dosed 1mg of suboxone only 8 hours or so after the oxycodone. My stomach felt a little worse after it, but I figured I was good to take another mg. About 20 minutes after taking the other 1mg I puked a little, and then my heart was racing and I felt weak and achey. This lasted for an hour before it subsided. I guess that some of the bupe was able to attach to the open receptors while some of the bupe ripped the remaining oxy off of the receptors. I knew that there was a chance of this happening, but I wanted to do it as an experiment to see. Now I no that I need to wait longer to dose the suboxone even when only taking a small dose of oxy that doesn't even take the withdrawals away.
