I know someone that wants to get suboxone for opiate addiction. And wants to know if they will give it to you if you have marijuana in your system when they drug test you

I agree that it depends on the doc. Just ask the Receptionist what is involved in their intake/new patient process. I was not drug tested but I had to return with the subs and take the first one there. I tried to go through the county so I wouldn't have to pay. They drug tested me but they wanted me to go to an inpatient rehab place for 10 days and they weren't planning on continuing the subs after that. I didn't like the idea of either so I felt I had no choice but to go to a private doc. You really have to ask what you want to get out of it. I didn't like my doc at all b/c all she did was write a script. No other help or guidance. If I just wanted drugs I would have paid less buying it off the streets. It bothered me b/c I wanted more than just the pills.

I don't know what other people's experience has been but on my own I got myself down to 2 mg a day but I am finding it hard to actually get off the subs for good so it looks like I am going to have to go back to the doc. But I will say subs vs. heroin is still cheaper and I am way more productive. It stinks though that it's so expensive to get off drugs.

If you are really trying to get off the subs you really should go lower than 2mg's a day. Try 0.2 mg's a day for a couple weeks and then jump off from there. I think you will find its MUCH less painfull. In fact I doubt you will have any pain.

I take 0.5 mg doses every day and I can stop taking suboxone anytime I want with no withdrawal. But that is because I "maintain" at this low dose....I dont jsut lower my dose to it and then quickly jump off. Your body has to be at the low dose for a long enough period of time to adjust to it before you can try quitting at that dose.(around 2-3 weeks in my opinion)

Does the sub give you energy like opiates? I know someone that took one that wasnt hooked on opiates and said it really messed them up and they didnt know how anyone could goto work while on them. Can you function on them like normal?

If you are an opiate addict and therefore have a large tolerance, suboxone only keeps you from getting sick, if you take it in large doses(anythign over 4 mg's...usually 12-32mg's)....if you take it in small doses, like 0.2-2 mg's...it can give you mild, but enjoyable euphoric effects. It also can give you energy, and act as an anti-depressant.

But, if you are not an opiate addict, and barely ever take opiates, meaning you have no tolerance to opiates....then if you even take 0.4mg's of suboxone, it can fuck you up bigtime...as if it were heroin or oxycodone. Suboxone(or bupernorphine which is the active drug in suboxone) is 40x's more potent than morphine.

It all depends on your tolerance level.

Thank you for your advice. I was hoping to avoid going back to the doc but I guess I may have to. I had 8 mg pills that I broke in half at first and then in quarters to get to 2 mg. So per your advice, I will have to ask her to prescribe me 0.5 mg pills? I asked her to help me go lower on the dose b/c I told her I could not financially sustain what she wanted me to do, which was see her every month for 6 months (at least) and be on 16 mg a day. But she just ignored me so I said ok, well are you willing to work with me on your fee and she ignored me again. Her assistant basically said, in a polite way, good luck and to get in touch when I have more money. There are 5 other docs here who deal with this stuff and was going to see about seeing someone else. She treated me like everything I said was a lie and I understand that to a degree but the only problem was that I was telling the truth. LOL.

90 mg a day of roxicet for about a year. do you think that's enough to get on subs. Tried quitting cold turkey a couple of times but withdrawals were rough and have always given and and railed a 30.

My personal experience with heroin was that it made me lethargic and I became unproductive. I stopped even doing the things that I really cared about. It did not give me energy. The subs helped me not get sick, which was the prodominant reason I didn't quit heroin until I started on subs. My tolerance to heroin is ridiculously high as with pills. Before I did this, I could take 15 mg of something and feel great but now if I even take 60 mg, it prevents me from getting sick but I don't feel good. Subs have not made me feel good or even close to high. It does make me feel "normal" though and I am productive. It helped me a lot.

No...suboxone only comes in 8 or 2mg's. I am actually prescribed 12mg's/day but I only take the 0.5mg doses because I get much better euphoric effects from the low doses, rather than the high doses. I know this doesnt make sense, but its true....less is more with suboxone. I also get other benefits from the low dose suboxone like anti-depressant qualities, and good feeling energy.

I actually reccommend going to the doctor and simply getting a prescription for whatever she prescribes you, I think you said 16mg's a day....and then fill the script(which would be 60 8mg pills) and then never go back to the doctor again. You can simply break those pills into small doses and make that one script last forever practically. Think about it.....if your taking 0.5 mg doses like me, 60 pills would last you 960 days. But obviously you wouldnt have to do it exactly like that, you could start at a higher dose, like 2-4 mg's if you want, and then taper it down until you are at 0.5 or 0.3 mg's and then stay at that dose for as long as you want.

I divide my doses up by taking half of an 8 mg pill, which is 4 mg's, and crush it up and divide it into 8 equal piles......making each pile equal 0.5mg's.

This is a good way of getting off of opiates, and enjoying beneficial/euphoric effects of suboxone, while only having to go to the doctor one time and saving money.

Never been on heroine just do roxys and they give me energy like cocaine I can get so much stuff done on them. When I first started taking them at work people were commenting on how much work i was getting done now.

yes I reccommend that you switch to about 4 mg's/day at most of suboxone if you were taking 90 mg's of roxi a day before. then, I reccommend you quickly taper your dose down to under 1 mg and you can then enjoy the euphoric properties of suboxone.

Here is a post that I wrote a long time ago, but I saved it on my computer because i was having to say the same thing over and over again.....this explains why suboxone works better in low doses, and gives you a good idea at how suboxone works.....

"Buprenorphine(Suboxone) works better at lower doses because of its metabolite norbuprenorphine, which is a full agonist like heroin or oxy.

norbuprenorphine has a lower binding affinity to your receptors than buprenorphine does just like most other opiates....this is what causes it to kick any other opiates off of your recpectors when you take it.

...so, when you take higher doses of buprenorphine(around 4 mg's or more give or take)...this fills all your receptors up with buprenorphine and leaves no room for the metabolite norbuprenorphine to bind.

but when you take small doses of suboxone....all the buprenorphine fills all the receptors it can until there is no more bupe...but since you took a small dose, you still have open receptors with no bupe on them....this allows the norbuprenorphine(full agonist) to bind to those open receptors, causing some euphoria because its a full agonist as compared to bupenorphine which is only a partial agonist.

Everyone is different and everyone must find there "sweet spot", so to speak, concerning the amount of low dose suboxone to take....you want to take a small amount so that you can still have receptors available for the full agonist norbuprenorphine...but not too small so that your leaving receptors unfilled with neither bupe or norbupe.....understand? "

That makes alot of sense to me. I dont get extremely bad wd's I feel uncomfortable sweat have back pains and not much motivation. But can get out of bed and everything. But just cant seem to get past the wd. Anyone had any luck tapering off sub?

When you got down to .5 mg's you said you were able to stop and felt no withdrawal? How long were you maintaining at that before you stopped taking them? Did you keep halfing your dose until you got to that?

Idk if you know about this but I know with heroin your brain stops producing like 3 things. I can't remember what they are now but do you know if it's the same with subs? Like as long as you're on them, is your brain not producing things we need?
