I'm wondering I would like to get on a maintenance program because I've been struggling with opiate addiction since I was 18 and I'm now 24. I go through streaks where I am able to stay off the junk for awhile but I chronically relapse and then binge and always think about using. In order to get into a maintenance program do I have to be fail a drug test and be withdrawing or can I go into a program for preventative maintence?

I was 14 days sober, after cold turkeying off from my heroin habit, when I started attending an intensive outpatient group which prescribed me suboxone. All I had to do was provide proof of insurance and pay some money. Other places will make you drug test. Generally it's pretty often whether someone is truly an addict even 10 days into their sobriety, with a propensity to sweat, yawn, etc. etc. So it would be obvious to the trained eye. If you are high at the time of your assessment they'll make you first detox in a hospital setting, detox/cold turkey at home or send you into a residential program (probably also with a medical detox first).

Basically, the one thing you will NEED to prove you have is funds to pay for the sub treatment.

So to directly answer your question:

It will depend on the specific program, but I was able to go in and get it prescribed, at an 8mg/day maintenance level, as a preventative measure. I was still going through minor w/d's at the time of my assessment, but they didn't ask for any drug test or anything like that. Good luck!!!

p.s. PM me if you're in San Diego, and I'll give you more advice. I am also 24 currently, and started using opioids regularly when I was 18. Small world... :)

I got into a suboxone program after detoxing for 28 days i han beed shooting dope since i was 13 im now 48 all i had to do was pay for office visit and buy my suboxone been on mant program for 2 yrs and this past month been trying to taper myself off was doing 8mg inam and 8mg in pm have cut myself back to 8mg 1x and this past 7 days been doing none havent slept in 3 days and my back hurts like a mother fucker so if u do get on mant program dont stay on it for too long because these withdraws are pretty bad and have been told the worst is yet to come so good luck

pillpopper420... "."s are your friend. Punctuation is there for you to use. I guess a less dickish way of putting this would be to say that your post would have been A LOT easier to read with even minor punctuation. Like a period or comma here and there would make a world of difference.

Any who...

So yea, I guess what the above is emphasizing again is that it's all about the $$$/insurance, but really the $$$
