last saturday i went fishing/wakeboading with my friend , and like a dumb@$$ i took my takehomes on the boat . . guess i didnt wanna leave them in the truck . well short story . my meds got slung out of the boat and hasta la vista my precious methadone. which has been a mistake i have regretted since it happen. i even considered going scuba diving to find them . anyways . so i have been in pretty bad w/d been since saturday morning since i dosed. ( 8 /15 ) . it is now 8/19 . and i can actually go back to the clinic tomorrow . but i have been in agony as one can probably imagine as i am on 70mg dose daily . a friend of mine gave me a 8mg suboxone . but said that if i havent been away from methadone for a while then i would go into precipitated w/d ... would it be safe to take it . or should i just make myself wait another 22 hours and go back to the methadone clinic tomorrow . i also have the option to switch to subs if that would be a better option . opinions needed!

You arent going to want to hear it but if you have regularly dosed on methadone for more than 6 months you arent going to have physiccal withdrawal in 3 days off. Methadone, when regularly dosed, creates the equivalent of an internal resevoir. The sum effect is akin to time release with just enough methadone to keep you straight for at least 6 days. Just so you know, I am on 220mgs and have not dosed since the 15th, just like you. Im fine though the mental aspect can be difficult.

As for Suboxone, if you are truly not in physical withdrawal yes it will trigger a physical withdrawal that will make anything you experienced thus far seem like a joke.

I don't know if I necessarily agree with this. I dosed 40 mg for two years, within 48 hours of a missed dose withdrawls would set in. Now I'll grant you, they didn't get truly unbearable until about 3 1/2 to 4 day mark tho. As for not taking the Suboxone, I will agree with you on that 100% I had a friend who was taken well over 100 mg a day, he missed a day and dosed a Suboxone at about the 24 hour mark. You can imagine what happened. It was not pretty. In fact, that was the reason I got off the methadone.

Psychosomatic effects can certainly play a part. Up until the early-1990s I used to freak out if I had to miss a single day. When I went Cold Turkey in 2007 in a nation that not only lacked any type of OST/MAP (Opioid Substitution Therapy/Medically Assisted Programme) but was devoid of any illicit opiate/opioid street scene as well (apart from Nabulphine), I realised I had no choice but to man up. Lying on the floor of an intake cell on Rikers Island in New York City, I was sick within hours. Its alot more difficult when you know your fix is just around the corner but you cannot get to it. Knowing that for a million dollars you cant get straight leads to a different mind set. I have been denying myself dosages 6 days at a time since I came to the US in late-2013, saving it up for when I return to SE Asia. Like I said before, mentally it can be trying but I have never had a physical symptom.

Methadone to Suboxone

Hi guys new to thread been on methadone for about 5 years at the highest dose of 75mg. Since last December I started lowering my dose to 16 mg currently. I've kicked heroin and suboxone multiple times and I'm already starting to feel the jitters RLS but it's almost like it's coming from my diaphragm hard to explain even though I've slowly tapered. I can deal with all the withdrawal symptoms except RLS. I had to be injected with a dose of Valium IM years ago while kicking because I was hallucinating from not sleeping. Anyway today I'm going to sub doctor to discuss transferring to a sub taper for a month a little more if needed because continuing the methadone taper is just torture would rather just cold turkey but I've heard lots of success with using subs for a short period while detoxing of the methadone. I know I should wait at least 72 hours before first dose.I will try not to be on a dose higher than 4 mg at beginning to take the edge of the. I'm 27 so I'm still fairly young and would like to be able to move forward with my life. I've been preparing mentally to get off for a while and I have two weeks I can take off work if needed. Tired of paying for something I know longer need. Everyday it not only costs me money but almost like a piece of me goes too. I guess I'm just looking for any advice or any encouragement I know it won't be easy but it has to be done.

You've kicked before so you already know your strong enough. I can tell you something that has always helped me, once I took 4mg of sub about 10 hours after shooting a 1/4g of some really good New Orleans dope, needless to say it was NOT pretty. The worst 12 hours of precipitated withdrawls I've ever felt. Any time after that I ever had to kick, be it jail or just no dope available, I thought about that night and how it could be so much worse. If I could survive that, I could survive this even easier. when do you induce the subs? Do you have access to any meds for the transition? Colonidine (sp?) is great for blood pressure, any short acting benzo is great for anxiety, just don't take them too often and trade one addiction for another. Good luck, we're all here if you need us.

Thanks for the reply. I saw my doctor and he wrote me the script for sixty 2 mg subs. He told me to to get nice and sick before I take my first pill and to see how I react. I know it's a minimum of three days but I'll try to tough it out more as I definitely don't want those precipitated withdrawals lol. I'm glad he gave me the 2 Mg because I want to start with the lowest dose possible that will hold me for an easier taper. This coming Friday will be
My last dose of methadone and I will have 9 days off from work possibly more if I need to. I have about 20 1 mg klonopin to take the edge off some bud plenty of vitamins. The thing is I don't know if I should try and see if I can cold turkey all together and at least I'll have the subs to do the taper if it is just to much to handle. My doctor didn't prescribe me clonidine because I'm already on a beta blocker for blood pressure and he doesn't want my blood pressure to plummet. So Saturday will be first day without methadone and will keep updating I appreciate the encouragement and advice I can sure use it all always good to talk with people who know exactly what it's like.

Hi guys just wanted to update I'm on day 5 no methadone from 16 mg. I had ended up getting my hands on some kratom and it has helped a lot for sleep at night. I have been getting about 5 hours which is amazing.I didn't use any kratom at all yesterday and it was an okay day surprisingly definitely uncomfortable. Usually around the 30 hour mark I start getting antsy and aches but yesterday on my 4th day just some aches hot and cold watery eyes sneezing and I'm super emotional which is strange for me because I'm usually the opposite. I just start crying for no reason lol. Other wise so far so good at this point I might continue this route instead of the suboxone. At least the kratom is natural and I will stop use between the 2 or 3 week to see how I manage. Hopefully the harsh part of this shit will be over by then. I will probably taper the kratom though just invade there are withdrawals but can't be anything like getting off the beast. So I still have a week off from work at least to get some more of this shit out of me. Had I known the toll the methadone would have taken on me I would have never started it. Methadone maybe good for a 7 day detox but as a maintenance drug it is pure evil. These places are nothing but money traps and 90% of them could give a rats ass about you. I have had 10 different counselors since I started there 5 years ago.Not one of these asshole ever even knew my name without looking at my file. Last year I told the doctor I wanted to taper and she said she didn't think I was ready!!! Not Ready!!! I have been here for 5 years and never dropped a dirty who are you to tell me I'm not ready I see u once a year for a physical. It's called they don't want you to leave or at least your wallet. Anybody who plans to try methadone as a means to get clean please do some research. Anyways just needed to write to keep busy and say what's up keep u updated on the progress...
