Hey Everyone this is my first post so please bear with me. A friend of mine is in the process of kicking a heroin habit and has been using suboxone for the last few days. While looking here, I see posts about iv'ng suboxone STRIP to get high, but after almost 2 hours I've yet to find an answer to my question. My question is can you iv suboxone to help kick a heroin addiction rather than take sublingually? I understand it should be taken as directed. I'm just curious if you can iv for detoxing as opposed to just for a recreational high. Would it be bad to inject due to the nalaxone? I hear if you want to get high, the nalaxone will prevent that, but he's trying to detox not get high. Its been about 2 1\2 days since he last used dope. He started taking 2mg sub under tongue ended up throwing up within a minute due to taste. He is now set in stone on iv'ing it. I'm just worried & wondering if anyone else has iv'd it. Is the nalaxone bad to inject or is it okay since its being used to kick a habit, not get high. I understand injecting is bad in first place, but I can't convince him otherwise. I'd feel better if someone could reassure me that he will most likely be fine. again this is the suboxone 8mg film/strip I'm referring to.

Questions in a nutshell

Is it okay to iv the sub strip including the nalaxone in it to help kick a heroin habit?

Will effect of sub used for detox be generally the same if shot up as opposed to under tongue?

Thank you to all,and I am truly sorry if I missed/over looked a post that answers this question

Well its frowned upon to shoot then if you want to get clean because then you get more hooked to the bupe due to the whole bedle fixation and higher b/a and faster onset. I myself switched back to sublingual/insufflation(once in a while) because I'm tapering down. I'm at 0.3mg 3 times a day which I think I'm sticking at for a bit as its a good dose for me probably the best I've found. But you can shoot then up while tapering many do it doesn't make you any higher per say it just means you can use less because your using 100 percent if the pill instead of 30-40 percent when you take it sublingually because IV has higher bioavailability tajn sublingual because you lose alot of the pill with your saliva in your mouth. So instead of taking 1mg sublingually you could take 0.3mgs IVed and get the same effect. Bupe won't give a big rush or anything though like heroin it still crosses the BBB slowly as that's just buprenorphine for you but it does not take less time to kick in then any other route and doesn't waste any of the pill meaning you can conserve your sub's better if you IV. Its really your choice if you think you can handle shooting then without developing a addiction to the needle itself then by all means go ahead and taper while IVing.

The naloxone does nothing its as if it not even there it doesn't take away any high its the same as bupe without naloxone. The bupe has a higher affinity for the opiate receptors than naloxone does which if why someone overdosing on bupe can't be brought out of it by using naloxone the bupe just clings to the receptors so tight they cant be pushed off by any other substance.
