Bupe Suboxone and Twitching

Hello, Bluelight.

I've been trying to quit heroin with the aid of Suboxone, and it's done wonders for me (have been clean since I started it - December 26 of 2011.) I've been using Suboxone as directed, and I haven't even wanted to touch any opiates.

However, ever since I've started using it, I've had twitches (especially in the night, when I'm trying to sleep) and it can be really annoying sometimes. They started me on 16mgs a day for 3 days, then 12mgs a day for 4 days, and now I've been down to 8mgs a day for the past week or so. I've looked up the side effects of Suboxone, and haven't found anything regarding twitches, and my doctor hasn't mentioned anything to me about it. I've only seen my doctor once since I've started it, and the appointment was short (and the twitching isn't too terrible - just an annoyance) so I didn't bring it up.

Is it common (or possible) for Suboxone to cause twitching? If I bring up my twitching problem to my doctor, will she want to take me off of Suboxone? Is the twitching a serious problem, or will it cause serious problems down the line?

it was common in my case. when the doctor started me on the high dose of 16mg i had the same twitching problems as you. especially at night laying in bed or just plain ol sittin still. now that i lowered my dose down on my own to about 3-4mg a day i no longer have this problem. so i would suggest to just stick with the lower doses because in my opinion lower doses works better for everything analgesic wise and side affect wise to, and your twitches will subside. but if they dont then i would talk to my doc about it.

It's possible the naloxone is what is causing this in you. Not 100% on this, but don't rule it out either. Perhaps if your doctor would switch you to subutex you could experiment and find out?

Ask your doctor to start you on a low dose of Seroquel (Quetiapine) for the remainder of your treatment. Insomnia and muscle jerking and/or twitches (most often at night) are almost always reported when kicking smack, even whilst on a maintenence program. Be sure to taper your dose once treatment has ceased should you choose not to continue with the Seroquel (may be best if you have hopes to achieve sleep without an aid in the future). This should solve your problem. If twitching persists or worsens (it shouldn't but, it could), consult your physician.

I've been prescribed Seroquel in the past, it would just knock me out for 12-15 hours... No thanks

I'll ask my doctor about that and see what she thinks about that.

Ah, I'm not quite ready to come down from my current dosage (it was already difficult making the switch from 16mg to 8mg) but once I am ready, I'll keep in mind that lower doses helped in your case.
