Hello Gents,

I've been on Suboxone for about 2 years now, I initially started at 16mg a day, then 8mg, then 4mg and for the last month or so I've been doing 2 mg.

2MG seems to hold me okay but my prescription expired (I didn't realize they expired after 6 months) and I did not stockpile any Subs. I've got to make what I have last for a bit until I am able to see the doctor.

I wanted to quickly jump down to 1mg a day then to sub 1mg. I'm using the film strips so I can cut it evenly into 8th's without issue, however when I go to dose such a small amount it seems to dissolve almost instantly under my tongue and I feel like I'm not getting the full dose absorbed.

It could be a physiological issue as it looks like such a tiny piece my brain doesn't believe that the little bit can hold me. How do you dose amounts even less than 1/8th, like .50mg? From what I've read some people do get down to this dose, but I feel if I put a 16th of the strip under my tongue, it'd immediately dissolve and be washed away by my saliva.

How can I easily get down to 0.5mg? and what's the best way to dose it?

You may have gone down to .5mg to quickly when you get down to under 4mg taken sublingualy the reductions are noticeable if not done slowly. A lot of people on here who take .5mg for omt shoot it. Hang in there, if you've been taking ,5mg for a few days it should start holding you soon. Always keep it in your mouth for at least 10 mins.

I usually make a water solution by dropping the film in a tiny bit of water in a bottle cap or a cooker or whatever. Then I use a dropper to drip it under my tounge then I move my tounge around in the solution for at least ten minutes. This increases the bioavailability of the drug so less is wasted and less saliva builds up in the mouth while your absorbing your dose.

Even doing it the same way your doing by just putting the tiny strip under the tounge most of the dose is still being absorbed. You just have to keep the saliva/Suboxone mix in your mouth while moving your tounge around in it for a good 10-15 minutes. Most does get absorbed into the saliva right away by putting the strip in whole but its easier for bupe to be absorbed in a liquid form anyways so its not a big deal. After the 15, minutes spit the saliva out and you shouldn't taste any lemon lime flavour.

What I also do with my Suboxone tablets is crush them up then wet my finger slightly and dab the powder on my finger. Then hold my finger on the bottom of my tounge, pressing on the two veins underneath the tounge which absorb most of the bupe while its under the tounge. This could also work for the strip if your worried about saliva and if you usually swallow your dose by accident.

But your best bet to conserve your strips is to make a solution in water since it has been shown to increase bioavailability by 10-20 percent and you need all the bupe you can get right now.

Try not to drink or eat anything for at least 20 minutes afterward.

I agree with the other posters, so nothing to add other than best wishes.

I don't have any issue with accidentally swallowing my saliva.

I feel when saliva builds in your mouth, it dilutes the suboxone which in turn lowers the absorbed dose as there's less contact. Stopping your mouth from producing saliva is next to impossible =/

I usually hold my saliva for approximately 30 minutes before swallowing to maximize effectiveness, when I was prescribed the pills I would use the cotton/alcohol method but the films seem quite difficult to dissolve fully in solution.

I've heard the films dissolve a lot easier in water than the tablet hence why IV users prefer them over pills. I know you can't stop creating saliva but your still getting the dose you need your mind is just playing tricks on you. If you don't want to make a solution with water (which I find does cause you to create less saliva) then just dry your mouth out and put the strip under the tounge. Using mouthwash then spitting out all your saliva for a few minutes seems to work good. What else could you do besides snort or IV it was which are stupid things to get into ruining your nose or veins for Suboxone.

Sorry I don't have experience with the strips just tablets so I can't understand why yours arnt fully dissolving.

Try this thread all about film strips and maybe someone will be able to answer how to dissolve the strips in water. Follow the link I provide below
