Sublingual triazolam

Hi

I get my triazolam as 2x 0.125mg pills daily. I want to take them sublingually so as to increase the bioavailability. But putting the pills under the tounge doesn't work they don't seem to 'melt' or maybe I'm just not patient enough.

So my question is: How to I take the triazolam sublingually? Do I crush the tablets into powder and put that powder under my tounge? Usually I put the pills (while stille whole) in my mouth and crunch them with my teeth until they are basically powder. Then I try and keep the powder and saliva in my mouth for a long time, maybe 10 minutes, and preferable under me toungue but that can be difficult. Then I swallow it. It does give me an effect, but I'm not sure I've gained any advantage with regard to bioavailability.

Thank you very much for your help :)

successful sublingual admin of pills actually does take a little bit of acquired skill--ridiculous as that sounds. but it is hard to explain the technique. taking a drink of water right before you drop the pill under your tongue might help them dissolve right away. do not talk to move your mouth in any way that will cause the pill or what it is has dissolved into to leave from under your tongue.

i do not know if there is more than one generic, but when i had triazolam they were extremely small pills that broke down no-problem under my tongue.

if you are really struggling and having to chew the pills and all this, just swallow them. with benzos it is really more about making the come-up shorter than increasing bioavailability, and accidentally swallowing half your dose after sublingual-ing the first half will not help with that.

The pills I get are the brand name Halcion. I suspect those were the ones you got too since they are tiny and can be split in half (they are blu with a | in the middle). Those are the 0.25mg pills.

When you say drink water first, do you mean drink the water and swallow it (like what you do when you are thirsty) or do you mean drink water and keep the water in your mouth? Could you please describe exactly what you do from the moment you stand with the pill in your hand to the moment where the effects kick in? I would appreciate that very much!!! Thank you for your post :)

Oh, and p.s. how much faster do they kick in? And do they kick in stronger?

Chew them up a bit with your front teeth to increase the surface area that your saliva can break down :)
I don't have an exact time of how much quicker they kick in but it's definitely quicker.
Triazolam's BA is 44% orally and 53% sublingually apparently.

Okay, let me see if I got that right: I crunch them with my front teeth until they become powder. Then I do absolutely nothing but let my mouth generate a lot of saliva until my mouth is basically full of it. Then, even though the crunched/powdered halcion pills aren't under my toungue but somewhere else in my mouth mixed with the saliva, they will still be absorbed sublingually after sometime? Because it's nearly impossible to get the powder under you toungue by moving your toungue... In other words, even though my mouth is full of powdered halcion / triazolam and saliva, the triazolam will still be absorbed sublingualle?

here is how i sub a benzo pill.

either allow saliva to collect in my mouth or take a drink of water or alcohol (and swallow it; enough moisture remains). then immediately drop the pill under my tongue. then i hold it under my tongue until it is completely dissolved. sometimes moving my tongue slightly at first if the pills does not dissolve right away but never so much that any could escape from under my tongue. once the pill dissolves, do not swallow until you feel the active substance is completely absorbed.

as you can tell from monstanoodle's post, people do it different ways. but i would never chew while trying to sublingual.

Okay, I seem to have been doing it the "wrong" way then... Thank you both so much, you have been a big help!
