Hi Everyone,
I was on sub for 3 years until jumping off at 2mg at the end of December 2012. I was inducted at 12mg (for a 100-120mg a day oxy habit). Even after being stable at 2mg for quite some time and trying very small reductions (such as 10% a week) I could never successfully taper below 2mg. Each time I would try, I would be paralyzed with depression, chills, and terrible fatigue by the 2nd or 3rd day of the drop. Thus, 2 mg was an absolute wall for me, and I believe that the high doses I was initially prescribed contributed greatly to my difficulty in getting below 2mg as I have heard of similar experiences from many people.
So, aided by the use of comfort meds like Clonidine and Klonopin, I decided to jump off at 2mg around Christmas time last year. The withdrawal from jumping off at 2mg lasted a good 2.5 months and consisted of mainly chills, RLS, insomnia, and fatigue. I made it until the beginning of March of this year before relapsing on hydrocodone, and have been on a run ever since. I am currently taking about 150mg of Norco a day, and have averaged between 120-150mg of hydrocodone for the past month.
To make a long story short, I am sick and tired of being sick and tired and was planning to try a taper plan in which I wait until I am very sick (like 26 or higher on COWS worksheet) and induct myself at < 2mgs per day, which I hope will enable me to taper down to nothing with minimal discomfort.
I really didn't want jump back on the suboxone train, but I don't see any other option at this point (exhausted all options w/ family, work etc). My goal is to do the short-term taper while at the same time work on developing good habits and coping skills to live an opiate free life after a gradual taper (perhaps aided by Kratom as well). I just want to be free! But the malaise and depression gets me more than anything else.
So, can anyone comment on whether a low induction dose minimizes the discomfort and makes it easier to taper down to a miniscule dose? I absolutely cannot go through another withdrawal like I did when I jumped off at 2mgs. Thanks in advance for the help and feedback!
