Bupe Sub Experience / Possible New Info (Dexlansoprazole)

Started on Subs 2 days ago. Started with 8mg, then down to 6mg the past two days. I have tried the Sub taper several times in the past and at that point in time actually had a lower opiate tolerance than I did when I started this round.

The effects the previous times were similar to everyone's experience with subs for maintenance and/or taper. An energetic, slightly noddy, pain reliving feeling at the first dose, then not much of anything from any of the following doses.

Well, my experience this time has been different and I'm trying to figure out why. With every dose the past 3 days I've had major nods, slight euphoria, general well-being sense, etc. And the high is at least 5x stronger than the first time I tried Sub therapy. I've also noticed that every time I eat, it kicks in even harder with a nod that almost too much to keep moving around.....the "have to close one eye to type" kind of nod.

So I've poured over everything that could be different this time....and variables that have changed......and there is only one. A medication I started a few months ago called Dexilant. So I'm wondering if this is the cause. Nothing else is different and since I haven't seen this medication mentioned as a potentiator of Suboxone I thought I'd throw it out there. Although this medication treats similar problems as Cimetidine, it's not the same type of drug.

Anyway, I was curious if any of you out there with more chemistry knowledge than I could shed some light on this. Maybe it's completely a coincidence. Who knows. But I'd be interested to open it up for discussion.

Thats exactly how I was. Previous times I used sub it would not get me high on the second day. When I got on sub maintance when I took my dose at night it would always get me high at the same low dosage. There were time's where I took 4mg instead of 2 and I did not get the same high as I would with 2mgs. Anyway I was not taking Dexilant I think it's just that your body is used to the dose and when you wait until its time to take it and finally take it you get a good hit from it.

I don't see any reason why Dexilant would cause hypersensitivity to Suboxone, so it has to be something else. Are you using the Suboxone strips this time and last time you used the tablets? Cimetidine would cause a possible heightened response to Suboxone due to a CYP450 interaction, but Dexilant would not.

Edit: Have you had a recent liver function test (AST/ALT)? It is a long shot, but there could be a protein binding interaction that would be exacerbated by liver dysfunction. Both drugs are relatively highly protein bound, so this could possibly explain an interaction. Again, extreme long shot.

Liver panel 3 months ago was perfect.

Thats what it was for me when I finally got on the program I got the strip's maybe its that? I don't know.

I would imagine that it's either

A. Your tolerance is simply lower this time. Buprenorphine produces a fairly euphoric high in individuals with low to no tolerance, though theoretically it shouldn't be quite as euphoric as that of a full-agonist would be.

B. Some people experience a better subjective feeling with doses in the 1-4 mg range (or lower) than they do with the full, high doses generally prescribed for opioid dependence. Many have speculated that bupe is able to act better as a mu-agonist in this range than at higher doses, but I can't comment as to the veracity of that assumption.

It could be the medication, but that wouldn't be my first assumption.

Also, great avatar. I last saw them about a year and a half ago; hoping to get to one of the shows coming up (or Solid Sound.)
