JJ McRoach authored an article in High Times in the mid/late 1980's advocating a ban on indica. This was way before hybridizing took off and when grafting for particular traits was a just novelty. One grew pure indica for squat, big yielding, highly resinous plants that matured outdoors in 3 or so months. But he argued that growers and consumers were turning their backs on sativa strains that often grew to ginormous sizes, flowered when they wanted to and usually produced smaller yields. His point was that growers couldn't be bothered with the risk of a protracted growing period, and consumers were gradually losing sight of the longer-lasting cerebral qualities of classic sativa strains like Thai buddha, Viet sp., Durban Poison etc. From memory, I think he cited the disappearance of the fabled Acapulco Gold as an example :(. The 'baseball bat between the eyes' hit from indica became all the rage and, according to him, was largely responsible for a decline in the popularity ne. near extinction of sativa. The spacey, tripped-out sativa high fell from favour. Nowadays, unless groweres have maintained their own pure breeding stock or have access to bonafide seed from authentic, uncontaminated sources it strikes me that he might have been right. Is there anyone out there still growing an old-fashioned, unadulterated sativa variety?

From what I've been buying over the years Indica has been the dominant strain. That and hybrids. Every once in a while a pure Sativa will come by and I'll pick up as much as I can lol but its definitely not very often. I'm sure the growers are out there it just takes a little bit of searching to find them.

If I was able to grow I'd be trying to find the purest sativa seeds possible :]

You betcha, Roose. I grew a pure strain of sativa from seed bought back Vietnam for nine glorious seasons - had long, weeping alligator-tail leaves with an almost indigo hew to them. They always ended up between 2-3 metres tall with whippy, arching canes zig-zagged with small buds and the occasional seed :). Often wouldn't begin to bud until early autumn and probably never reached peak resin-producing form because of the cooling weather and shorter photo-period at that time of year. Then came the knock on the door and I lost the lot - grow records, photos, stored bud and my seed stock :(. Ah well, still got my passport :).

im certain there are plenty of people growing pure lanyard sativa strains, well, ive seen plenty of pics, and read lots of grow reports of 8-12' tall thai plants, which are my personal favorite as far as sativga and pure genetics. i always love it throwen in for the sativa part of hybrids, it has so many bright-fruity-creamy-chocolaty flavors, and a unique mystic head space.

the problem, in the states mostly for the street any way, is that they take so long to flower, and become so massive, that they are prone to molds from humidty, and other dieseas's unless you have some experience with the strain or are just good ;) with some vaulted cuilings, a bubble bucket, or the ability to let it streatch up and out doors, youd e set - for a 1210 or so day flower! w/o too large of a yield. i would harvest after 55-65 days, to dumb it down some, as i do with my blueberry, i harvest a bit early to pick it up, and not create a sleeper...

id bet mosy US citizens dont grow that stuff as much as euro's.

what say you BM?!?
;)

just a lot of rope, a pristine toilete, and a reverse osmosis? or 6' deepx3.5' wide of arid ammended organig organig soil-ess.

sour deisil will surely stun you. the chem dog stuff, the tire store skunk smelling, road kill down the way stuff.
;)

very psychedelic if done right.... i want to try the NYxAK thats being released... oh my.

I can get Durben Poison regularly... I do know Sativa strains are harder to come by, but that doesn't mean they are gone.

It's odd, because I feel more people enjoy the effects of Sativa recreationally (?).

i get indica strains 99,9% of the time from my dealers in germany which sucks because sativa strains are way more fun. i remember the few times i have smoked sativa and it was always a time to remember. one time my friend brought some jack herer from amsterdam. he only had a tiny amount left and we smoked it with five people. i remember thinking "what a waste, im not gonna get stoned from this". but i was so wrong. i had a euphoric, active high that lasted 4-5 hours. it was so awesome. why cant weed always make you high like this? all i know is that when im in amsterdam i will try to pick up the best jack herer i can find.

go sativa!

the guy is a fucking douche.
as with most of the high times staff, they are up themselves and sellouts.

i advocate a ban on high times. its a piece of shit magazine that poo-poo's
other products if they arent the over-hyped, over-priced, over-advertised ones.
fuck them in the ass with a rusty, red-hot fire poker.

and yes, MANY unadulterated PURE strains (asian sativas etc) still are grown.
this is what you smoke if you get good Thai stick/bud-sacks (as in canvas sacks full of ganj)

the reason they are unadulterated is due to hundreds, maybe THOUSANDS of generations of the plants growing perfectly well and being bred in themselves for the sheer quality of that strain.
(of course a small amount of hybridization occurs what with pollen in the air etc)

OP i really think you would enjoy the show "Strain Hunters".
it is made by the Greenhouse Seeds boys - they definitely know what they are doing.
check it out on youtube sometime :P

Jack herer, super silver haze are the two sativas we get in Montreal but yea indica is alot more common. That triple A jack we used to get for a while has disappeared as of late. Alot of indicas like white berry going around.

Sativas are abundant in Texas.

Even the Mexican brick schwag is good and gives a nice sativa high if you can get over the fact it's schwag. Because sativa grows naturally in mexico its what a lot of the weed here os.

I get more high from schwag these days and I find lots of the "dank" is purely looks, IMO Indica looks good but the high isn't as good as sativas.

I like being able to blaze and bowl and be nice and high for a few hours instead of being extremely stoned, falling asleep and being baseline within an hour.

Of course there's still dank grown sativa, like Shoreline from Houston is killer. It's 100% sativa and wow u better be ready to be so high that you'll get nervous lol. And visuals, yes....like light dose of LSD if you aren't careful with how much u smoke lol.

Put that shit in brownies and nom on a couple of those, that'd be fun haha

Indica grows better in the North American Climate, it makes sense that we grow it here.

I prefer the indica high anyways
