Opioids stuffy nose !!

can someone please explain to me why your nose gets all stuffy for the longest time from snorting drugs (ime from oxy)

i know part of it is bec you are putting foreign objects up your nose and your body is naturally trying to get rid of it. but is there anything else that makes it stuffy? & how exactly is this avoidable?

Either it's due to congestion resulting from the insolubles in the pills physically clogging your nose or due to irritation and subsequent inflammation.

Rinsing your nose out with saline regularly is beneficial because it helps unclog your nose and remove physical contaminants as well as hydrate your nose and reduce irritation and inflammation. Nasal sprays containing oxymetazoline can almost instantly free your nose of congestion however they do this via vasoconstriction which can reduce the efficacy of that route of administration.

They sell nasal bath kits with a little kettle and powder to make saline solution. I've never had this problem since back when I still sniffed oxycodone I didn't do it too often, but I would suggest either investing in one of those nasal bath rinses, or clearing out your nose when you are in the shower. The steam helps with that, and you can also wet your nose manually, and go from there. As for the reasoning behind why your nose gets clogged, I believe that Cane2theLeft adequately answered that part. Personally, I would just eat the oxycodone since it has a very high oral BA, and lasts longer that way too.

I get general inflammation from the irritation of putting anything up my nose, and it gets so bad that using a nasal rinse causes the water to run into my ears and out of the tear ducts in my eyes, rather than out my nose at all. When it was at its worst, my boyfriend had to funnel the dope into my nostril with my head tilted back, using an index card and a straw. I should also note that I regularly take antihistamines and medication for nasal congestion in general, and even with that, it didn't help.

Antihistamines are probably counter productive for you. When your sinuses are irritated, drying them out with anithistamines exacerbates the problem. Nasal decongestants can be beneficial to relieve the congestion but counterproductive if you want to keep using the intranasal route. Maybe it's time to take a break if it's getting that bad

Try dipping your finger into some warm water and sniffing it right after you sniff your DOC (drug of choice). Kind of like back in the day when we used to do coke, we used to do that all the time. Other than that, keeping your nose clear throughout the day and much as you can. Blow, ream, rinse, whatever it takes but don't let the drug sit on your nasal skin too long or it'll eat it away eventually. Just my two cents, good luck!

Stop snorting Oxy, the BA for Oral is ~ between 70 to 87% while insufflated is closer to 50%. Like Tommy said, the duration is also longer for oral administration. So consuming oxycodone intranasally is quite silly if you ask me. Insufflated (intranasal) oxycodone doesn't even have much of a rush if any; hell people say IV oxycodone doesn't have much of a rush, so why would snorting it have a rush.

Thanks for all the help.
I actually have one of those neti pots already but I am scared to use it bec I gag really easily (even the drip from snorting makes me gag) so I have a fear that water coming in/coming back out will really make me gag/puke.
I don't sniff the roxys for the rush. I would just eat them but they are really hard on my stomach and make me puke my guts out.
I also think that sticking your dirty bills and dirty fingers up your nose also irritates it.
Maybe I should start using a straw for a tooter. Thanks again guys!

Also bear in mind many opiates cause significant histamine release (hence the itching). Maybe you have something going on in that regard.

My experience with heroin & cocaine at least has been that using a saline nasal spray heavily about 10-15 minutes before insufflating will significantly improve the experience and bring down the congestion afterwards.
