Hi I'm Nick, a 33 year old guy currently studying for my masters in zoology, I'm English, living in Wales and my entire life used to revolve around where i was getting my next drugs from (ecstasy, cocaine, weed, speed and anything else I could get my hands on).

I have been clean (on and off) for the past 13 years but as I have depression and anxiety I have been medicated the whole time (40mg citalopram at the moment).

I have recently started experimenting with modafinil (for my studies) and mirtazapine to put me to sleep afterwards (it has the added bonus of being an anti-depressant).

I thought I would join the forums to see if there are any other options out there for me and to check whether what I'm doing is safe.

welcome! you are definitely in the right place. the search engine is your best friend. it will take you right where you need to go. i am gonna go ahead and post some links that i think you will dig.

welcome Badger :)

There's tons of folks here from Europe/England area.. Have a gander over in EADD.. you'll find some interesting people there.. Some off their nut, and some who are just awesome lol

Hope you have a wonderful time here and make plenty of new friends. We come in all different shapes/sizes and we don't bite....hard ;)

ok, i see you found Other Drugs
which is good for a lot of answers you may be looking for. here is a super handy link within Other Drugs
Other Drugs Directory.

that should get you started. make sure you read the BLUA and the individual forum rules. it seems like alot but a little bit of time invested in not only getting a feel for the site but you will get a sense of the rules and regs which are very important. Bluelight is a community and we are very dedicated to Harm Reduction.

hope i didn't overwhelm you...please reply here if you need any help. otherwise you can always PM a MOD and they are all AWESOME.

so i will let you get to it. hope to see you around!

much peace and love.....................skillz<3
also The Dark Side is great for support and is such a warm and welcome place to talk about the blues and depression and all sorts of SUPPORT,which you definitely need.
there are regional forums as well...European & African Drug Discussion and European & African Events

Thanks for the super warm welcome guys. You made me feel right at home

Thanks for the links skillz. You wish you were English? I hate being in England, I would much rather live in Canada so that is where I'm going to do my Ph.D..

I'm into snowboarding (hence Canada) and wakeboarding, triathlon, kayaking, climbing and other outdoor stuff but my lack of money as a student and my depression and anxiety stop me from enjoying them much really. I don't really go out much any more because when I start to drink I can't stop and class A substances mess with my mental state too much in the aftermath (cons now outweigh the pros). I love indie and rock music and Japanese anime.

I am studying zoology hoping that in the future I can save the world from us :D

Hope to catch up with you guys later

Nick <3

aww...i know how you feel. i remember my 1st intro thread. i just knew ppl were gonna be mean or not give a shit but everyone was so welcoming. i enjoy giving that back.
yeah,i guess being Canadian would be good but their accents are not as amazing as the English. And i love the colloquialisms..like bollocks ! Fuck ALL! I like that well is used instead of very-as in i am well buzzed. or being drunk is being pissed. i love that twat and cunt are not evil words...they are in Chaucer and Shakespeare.
idk,English people sound so much more intelligent than americans. my BA is in English so of course i have many literary loves that link me to England. I can't wait to see London for the 1st time. I get chills just thinking about it. I want to travel badly. now isn't the time, but it is coming soon.
do you plan to stay in Whales or just go where the job takes you.
btw-I am a HUGE animal person-big on animal rights-grew up on a dairy farm, lived on a farm in NC that had peacocks,a turkey, chickens,a pot belly pig &3 piglets lots of cats and dogs. mules-not donkeys ;) in the pasture and a couple of horses. oh yeah-a cockatile and a tarantula.
big animal lover...i so respect that you want to save the world from us-i do too.
we have lots in common. and you are gonna meet even more ppl that u jst connect with. this community is AWESOME. really glad you are here!

I think you will find that most people on Bluelight are kind at heart. Some find joy in extreme sarcasm but a little sarcasm can be fun. When you become a bluelighter you can venture into the lounge which can be a fun experience.

Welcome to Bluelight!! :)

Thanks so much for the welcome :)

This is definitely the friendliest forum I've ever posted in anyway:) Thanks theotherside26 I can take a bit of sarcasm I was in the British Army for four years. In fact I can both give and take a lot of grief, it's the imagined stuff I can't take :D

Thanks a lot guys now I feel I can say most things and not be judged.

Yeah Skillz I guess our use of the language does have it's interesting side. I'm from the North where expressions like 'put t'wood int' 'ole' are sometimes used. It translates to 'put the wood in the hole', i.e. close the door please :) And 'e's a rum un' meaning he's an odd guy.

I'm from North Yorkshire and if you heard us talking you would soon change your mind about us sounding more intelligent (Sean bean is from Yorkshire). Listen to someone from Newcastle or Birmingham speak, they are like kryptonite for the sound of intelligence. I would think all you get to hear is English people trying their hardest to speak like the Queen in the media :) Oh and my Mum would kill me if she heard me use the word cunt or twat. I wouldn't say they are seen as evil but they are the two words most frowned upon by people who find profanity vulgar.

Good luck with the travel plans, by the way you're talking I'm sure you'll love it when you get over here. I don't plan on staying in Wales, I will write my PhD thesis in Canada then emigrate, probably to Canada but with a doctorate the world will be my oyster.

We do seem to have quite a bit in common Skillz. Growing up on a farm must have been fun and you had a tarantula and cockatiel....so lucky :-)..., I would have loved that. I had a couple of dogs and cats, rabbits, hamsters, guinea pigs and the odd goldfish but my favourite was the pond I built, it was full of frogs and newts for years. Then I made it bigger and stocked it with koi who ate all the frog and newt spawn. After a couple of years all the amphibians were gone :( But watching koi is a pretty amazing way to take your mind off a hangover or a comedown :) So relaxing.

Here in my place in Wales we did have three chickens for eggs but we lost one to a fox and one ran away leaving us with one who was looking super ill yesterday so I hope she's going to be ok. My house-mate just bought an Amazon blue fronted parrot but it has still got to get used to the new surroundings before he starts talking properly.

As far as saving the world goes I want to try and do something that will change the way we exploit resources with an eye to conservation but hopefully over time the changes would increase people's quality of life.

I was inspired initially by a few books written by Daniel Quinn, and Ishmael was the first and is still the best, it shows perfectly what we have done and are still doing to devastate the planet. Then there is a big idea on how we could change the way we live through the Venus project which is explained largely by the Zeitgeist movies. I'm not saying I subscribe to all the ideas they put forward but they were great starting points for me, they opened my eyes and I started down the path to understanding the earth's problems in much more detail, hoping I can be of some help in implementing a 'solution'.

Anyway there are some links in the text for anyone who's interested in joining my crusade :)

Been great to talk to you so far Skillz, hopefully I can find the advice and support I need to help sort myself out and start enjoying life properly again <3

Awww...you are so welcome. and you will be fine. you have a good head on your shoulders and alot going for you. trust me...in no time at all you will look back on these sad times very soon and think-"meh,that wan't so bad..AND i survived."
sorry about your chickens. wild animals are the worst part of country living. loosing animals bc it is just the nature of things.
i hope you will keep in touch. i enjoy talking to you and i could listen to stories about your colloquialisms all day!
are you a Ricky Gervais fan? when you mentioned the sayings above i could hear Karl Pilkington in my head! now he sounds like a bloody genius and they are steady setting him up and making fun of him.so if KP sounds that bright i'm standing by my position that the English accent beats one from southeast USA any day!
have you ever been to the states? i'll never leave them if i don't get over my fear of flying. i can bungee jump and dive from cliffs and bridges but i have a terrible fear of flying. plus 5 years ago i had a near fatal accident and my PTSD is so bad right now just as a passenger in a car once a month to see my Dr that i think boarding a plane would literally make my heart explode. idk why...i am not afraid to die...not when you've been as close as i was for quite a while...i guess it's the fear i fear.
hmm....interesting.
well i have been at it for almost 2 days now,i need to start winding down and at least take a nap.
i rarely sleep-a condition i have dealt with my whole life. but i am usually online so get to posting and exploring Bluelight and then you can send PMs!!! until then you can reply here and i will get back to you. next time we are online together i'll take you on a tour of some of my regular forums and threads.
I am so glad you are enjoying Bluelight. it really is an amazing site.
i'll be keeping an eye out for you and don't forget-if you need anything, don't hesitate to ask. there are so many awesome people here. you will see.
talk to you soon!
much peace and love....................skillz<3

Sorry it took a while to reply, my laptop utterly died and I had to recover it back to factory settings and just got back on-line.

Sorry to hear about your accident, I bet it was a scary time. I had a major accident once, I crashed into the central reservation of the motorway (highway) at roughly 110 mph but I walked away unscathed. It was quite fun to be honest, a major adrenaline rush :)

I'm like you in that I can do things which I should be scared of, snowboarding, wakeboarding, skating, climbing etc. but I'ts not flying I'm scared of it's being around people which sucks :(

I'll have a troll around the forums soon, I have a lot of work on at the moment, an essay to write and my 3rd year exams are next week so I'm a little busy at the moment.

Looking forward to the tour, catch you soon, peace and love back to you,

Nick <3

Oh and to answer your question I've never been to the states. I stopped in Bangor, Maine for about an hour on the way to the Dominican Republic but that is it :(

I'll get over there one day though <3
