Hi, I'm doing a project for my advanced bioochem class on some of the strongest depression causing drugs ,and I wanted to use this forum as sort of a starting point. how are they different from regular depression inducing drugs?

also, how does bupropion cause depression? doesn't it raise seratonin levels?

What? Why would someone take a drug that causes depression? Also bupropion is an antidepressant.

I think the OP is confusing CNS depression with the "depression" associated with an imbalance in the serotonin system (at least in theory, I know its not fully understood). So a drug can cause CNS depression, such as opiates but it wont cause Major recurring depression as in the emotional disorder. A comedown can cause emotional depression.

I would start by researching the difference between emotional vs CNS depression.

i thought it would be needless to say the depression being an adverse effect not the intended effect, sorry!

Okay thanks, but what's a comedown? you're referring to a "low"

Ah, I kind of figured that's what you were implying haha! Can't really answer it since the strongest drug I've taken is acid, though the depression for the next week was pretty bad.

Strange I experience a weird depression after LSD. Going through it all now.

OP, IMO all drugs cause depression immediately after the high. Some are more intense than others like the serotonergic drugs e.g. MDMA causes severe depression after effects wear off. Even weed makes me irritable and down when the buzz leaves. Valium, Hydrocodone, Alcohol etc... have all caused depression IME. DMT & DXM are the only two that haven't.

I've never taken nor will I ever take anti-depressants so couldn't help you there. But IMO they're the poorest excuse for pills.

methylone's comedown is more depressing than mdma ime.

alcohol is depressing

mdma is depressing

most stimulants from what iv heard

chemically, is there a difference between sadness and emotional depression? i feel like there would be because depression is accompanied by lack of motivation while sadness can lead to other things like anger, and etc that can lead to motivation

Lol most if not all drugs deteriorate your brain in some way or form .
For some drugs the way they fuck your brain is through depression and anxiety... some for those would be (and this doesnt apply to everyone) ... .
MDMA, ALcohol , Heroin, Opiates, Benzons, Weed, , ,,, and probably every other drug known to man. They dont do you any good man trust me.or dont . I've just been doing them for years and to be honest nothing good has come from them . At one point i had hope and thought oh I'm different I'm doing drugs, fucking up in life maybe my life will turn but nah . nah . nah. Before you know it your so addicted and its so hard to quit and go back to living in the normal world.... this is another way that drugs cause depression. For me anyways.
