I was talking to a union guy in the PCS - he says there's absolutely no stomach among the union for a fight to the death on their own. It's all over.

Certainly looks it. Would be interesting to see if there was any budge in what was on offer and what was wanted from either side as to go from 'Everyone strike' to 'Ah sod it, alright.' in such a short space of time.

Someone from PCS said the other day that there had essentially been no change from the original offer so they were still rejecting it. If they're now going to accept it then they've basically just shat it big time.

I'm going to withdraw from the pension scheme anyway. They're not nicking extra money off me every month to prop up the economy (public sector pension contributions go straight into the treasury to be used just as tax is, they don't go into a "pension pot") when I likely won't live long enough to get a decent return on it. Fuck 'em.

How the fuck did you end up on this contract that excludes you spade? Surely that wouldn't stand up in court (as the actress said to the bishop)

When we accepted the job we were asked to sign a contract like everyone is Issy.It didn't state "sign this to lose all rights". Seemed fairly normal and none of us were aware of any upcoming agency laws so we signed. The loophole is that our agency will try and find us work if our current assignment was to end (i.e. the company we work at decided they don't need us) which isn't likely to happen so that somehow exempts us from the payrise and equal benefits. :\

I didn't suspect anything sinister was going on :P I was just interested as to how i'd come across as a manager. I quite like the idea that I am a natural manager, when all I can normally manage to do is roll Js and make tea lol. I would quite like to continue our conversation about la revolution though :D
you're not a natural manager. don't fret. you're someone that wants to come across as one. the two are VASTLY different.

Spoke to someone on the PCS GEC today. He said that that Pickles cunt (is it Ed Pickles?) has essentially cunted it for the government. Unison etc had all agreed it then he came out this morning (I think it was this morning) with the proposal but it included a whole host of other shit that hadn't been agreed so the majority of the other unions have all withdrawn their agreement. PCS have definitely flat out rejected it & always have, I can see how they would have caved if the other unions did but it seems that most of the other unions are back on side. Fuck knows what's happening now.

Just read David Peace's "GB84", a great and gripping fictional account about the miners' strike told (unusually) from the perspective of striker, union official, hired thug, businessmen and other people involved in the "deep state" within the state. Just reinforces my impression that there is one principle in my life I would never break and that is to never break a picket line. Highly recommended reading anyway, neither thatcher nor scargill comes off as very likeable but there is a human quality to the book when told from the perspective of the average joe and the people who are involuntarily drawn or forced into the cesspool of politics. Coming from a country which didn't have a Thatcher in the 80's it's shocking to realize how deeply divided a class can be through brute force and the mechanisms inherent in nationalism and free market fantasies....

Anyone a member of the IWW btw? They seem like the kind of union a union should be if it could be freed from people like scargill and other bastards
