Whenever I would get dopesick, I'd always feel the urge to stretch. Like, the noisy, over-dramatic stretches where my arms are hitting things and I fall out of my seat. I have been clean off heroin for almost two years, and all the side effects have gone away except for this! I stretch all the time. Does anyone know why this happens? And if it will ever go away?!

Stretching has an effect on endorphin levels... There is probably a connection. I do get this too and I crave it in a sort of way.

Also from a study on pubmed:

Yawning and stretching are dopamine (DA) mediated behaviors and pharmacological studies indicate that these behaviors are associated with increased DA release coupled with stimulation of postsynaptic DA-D2 receptors.

I took naltrexone once 6 days after my last opiate use and apparently it was too soon and so I went into precipitated withdrawals. What I remember the most about it was that I kept on having the urge to stretch my arms and legs out as far as possible every couple of minutes, so I'm wondering if there's some connection to stretching and withdrawals.
